I spent some time at John Young McCormack Gym in dublin(he trained collins as an Amateur) when Nacho Berstein was using the place for two weeks. John Young McCormack would smoke cigars in the gym !I am amazed any of his fighters survived the smell LOL
Adam Trupish-Captain of the Canadian Olympic Boxing Team in 2004 and 2008...though you can't really call 2008 a team if you're the only one on it...
St. Saviours OBA! Johns a great trainer very sound bloke aswell! Had to do my corner once for me when I fought an All-Ireland Champion.. John was great and I ended up smokin yer man, dropped him twice! Then he invited me to come down sparring and did for afew weeks getting ready for the Under 19s.. Great little club with some quality fighters and yeah him and his brother smoke in the gym along with the usual fogies every gym has:smoke When did Nacho use Saviours????
Adrian Arreola-who kod Pintor and Gave a young Chavez all he wanted. I did well but then again he wasnt at his best and i out weighed him. Efren Chavez- A good friend of mine who fought Johnny Tapia to a draw(Efren deserved it) and was a very talented fighter whos career ended early due to accident outside the ring. Anyways i was training with him about 8 or 9 years ago to just get in shape, we sparred but he was in excellent shape a fit 145 and i was a pudgy 190. He was too sharp for me as he still trains fighters and stays in shape. He would have been a champ or top contender had he not been forced to retire.
Steve Franjic who was Canadian amature light heavy champ at the time. Ryan Wagner who has his first pro fight this May.
I've fought a couple of ABA champions, made the ABA Semi's 3 times along the way - although I definitely should have won 1 of them, and the kid I would have been facing in the final, I already had a win over. (dodgy judges! ). Sparring - I sparred a good few England ABA champions, I won't name them all, but keep an eye out for Anthony Fowler.
