Well not by far, given how many greats there have been over the history of the sport. I was saying it in that tone because I was a bit surprised and irritated that he hadn't been mentioned even once in the thread, even by you.

Been watching a lot of Duran recently, he's become one of my favorites. I can't say conclusively I've seen a better fighter on film than a peak Duran, and he fits the thread's criteria perfectly. You honestly think Schmeling was more impressive than Duran in this regard?

 

I love watching his second and third fights with Dejesus. In the second fight he was wilder, but you could see even in his rage how controlled he was and the skills he showed. Excellent feinting, great head movement even while on the attack, brilliant inside work, angles, etc. I also love his first round demolition of Alvaro Rojas, and the Leonard fight is obviously another great example of his skills.

Overall though, I just love watching footage of Duran at his LW peak. What I've come to notice about him was how slick he was. He reminds me of an offensive version of Wilfred Benitez. A much more agressive one. From his stance, his head movement, his countering ability, etc.
