I didn't realise he was that old ,very impressive for such a tiny man where speed, reflexes, and movement are more crucial.:good

He was not 'that' old, I think he was 28/29 when he won the title. The reference is to being a pound for pound #1 fighter of a particular time period.

I've always seen Walcott listed as being 37 for the first Marciano fight and 38 for the rematch. But these things seem to change all the time.. Its like your professor once said, " History never freezes in place."

I always remember Walcott being the man who won the title at 37 years (and 5 months) (holding the record 'oldest man to win world HW championship' up until Foreman 1994).

So, he would have been at least 38 and some months when he beat Charles in his 1952 defence and faced Marciano the first time.

Not sure .. Patterson was lighter and flattened Archie easier than Rocky did ..

    He hasnt been mentioned yet.

But, at 38, Jack Johnson was about to come out of retirement and embark on a 10 year unbeaten streak!

Not the greatest opposition due partly to him being politically frozen out of the title, but still pretty impressive by any stretch of the imagination.

I have a great deal of respect for Bernard Hopkins, but he had only 66 professional bouts while Archie Moore had over 200. As a result, I think that Moore was a more amazing old fighter than Hopkins.

Did Patterson face the same version of Moore? Moores body looked a bit doughy for Patterson fight, as if he didn't train hard because of the blackmail scandal he was going through. His body did not look like that vs Marciano. Not to mention that beating he took from Marciano, you have to wonder if it took something out of him

Patterson knocked him out 4 rounds sooner, other than that I don't know how he defeated him so much easier? Marciano won nearly every round and knocked Moore down 4 times

Lastly, you think Patterson could have beaten Moore in 1954-55? Floyd lost to Joey Maxim whom Archie crushed that year, Floyd was still just 19-20 weighing 170lb. It was in 1956 that Floyd seemed to physically mature, put on 10 solid pounds

In a few years, Wlad will run away with this. He might end up with 10 title defenses since he was 38.

It's very possible, but any challenger might spring an upset.
I give the next one, Tyson Fury, almost no chance, but bigger upsets have happened.

All credit to Wlad for every win he gets at this age.

The Moore that fought Marciano and Patterson were the same guy. Be serious please, not another ageless marvel that just dropped when Rocky ruined him ....
