Not a big list maker, but for the sake or argument let me have a quick go at it.... 1. Ray Leonard 2. Michael Spinks 3. Marvin Hagler 4. Thomas Hearns 5. Mike McCallum 6. Salvador Sanchez 7. Jung Koo Chang 8. Larry Holmes 9. Evander Holyfield 10. Azumah Nelson I'm sure I got some wrong, but I rushed a bit. Now yours.
He went 37-0 and did not lose in the 80's and was one of the most dominate boxer's out of gate the gate in the history of the sport .. If he doesn't belong on your list we disagree ..all good
Fighters who had the best careers during the 80s or the best fighters who fought at least part of their careers during the 80s?
Interesting. This isn't that easy. I found myself thinking your list was agreeable, bar a few amendments on the order, perhaps. Then I got to thinking of the name Julio Cesar Chavez and it all went wrong.
I started with him higher, on account of him going 67-0 and winning titles in three different divisions. But now I'm not sure about this, or who goes out, from the tail-enders. I might have to ponder this one for a while...
Sorry but Holyfield did not do better in the 80s than Tyson. Overall legacy wise yeah maybe but not in the 80s which Tyson ended undefeated as the youngest HW champ ever, undisputed, 37-0 33KOs basically the most feared man alive. Now that iithink about it I'm starting to believe this is a bait thread.
Agreed with everybody saying Tyson belongs here. I'd also like to throw Duran's name in the list. He beat your #1 and continued to pile up titles through out the decade. Definitely had a better 80's than Holyfield.
I wouldn't call it a "bait thread ." These things are supposed to engender a certain disagreement and subsequent discussion, so fire away.
