I'm sure you could, you would start by dismissing anything Calzaghe has done as an achievement, state that you think he's sloppy solely because his style doesn't look text book (neither does Pacquaio's by the way) and berate any of his achievements solely because your nose is out of joint. "Prime P4P ranked fighter" - **** off with the prime argument, prime itself can only be used when measuring a fighter at their peak against another fighter at their peak. If you're telling me the version of Hopkins that destroyed Tarver and Pavlik wasn't a ****ing seriously legitimate threat and challenge to Calzaghe, you're stupid. Pacquaio has one instance of a clean win against a "prime" fighter - Barrera. Even then, Barrera had already lost 3 times prior to meeting Pacquaio - whether this should count against the win? I say it should. I don't forgive fighters their losses.
Pac wouldn't be threatened by his slaps, so i'd say pac would have a good chance beating joe at his weight
I guess I'll be the first one to mention that Jones Jr. also started his career in the 80's ('89 to be exact), but that's nitpicking. I will state that Pugilistic Power's posts have been nothing short of cringe-worthy (along with every other I've read from him, in fact I believe he called Calzaghe one of the 10 best sportsman of the past 20 years in a previous thread ) before I make my exit.
Beat you to it , I remarked on Jones, Toney, Hopkins, Lewis and Barrera all starting their careers in the 80s on the 1st page... ...and I could not agree with you more re Pugilistic Power. This thread has been an exhibition of some truly diabolical reasoning and knowledge from this sorry specimen. Then again, should we even take seriously anyone who thinks Wladimir Klitschko has proven to be the 4th best fighter of the last 20 years, ahead of Manny Pacquiao and Bernard Hopkins amongst others?? I think not.
Yet, I'm the only one who doesn't need to resort to personal attacks and can bring up plus points about the other fighter. Funny that. I'm also not the one with Pacquaio's picture in my avatar - explains a lot.
My avatar signifies that I am a boxing fan. Your profile indicates that you call yourself the "Blonde Batman". No further comment required...
No. No we should not. It's best to sit back and laugh, or at least stick to shaking your head in disbelief, rather than trying to reason with such individuals. It's just a waste of time, man. Don't bother.
You're right. I am not indulging this fool any longer. His list is absolutely horrid. There's other, more serious fish to fry on here. Calzaghe was a very good fighter and although he doesn't make my own top 10 I can see why other people would include him, but to place him higher than Pacquiao on the basis that Pacquiao has lost and he hasn't is just complete bull**** IMO, that highschool logic is worthy of the ridicule it has received.
None of them have 25 title fights None of them spent 5 years in the Top 10 P4P None of them dominated and cleaned out an entire division..... three times None of them beat a fighter as good as Jeff Lacy - let alone the other fighters he beat.
5 years? From the lacy fight in 2006 to his retirement in 2009 was only 3 years. not to be a nitpicker. he also didn't necessarily dominate or clean out an entire division until AFTER the lacy bout. he dominated super middle and cleaned it out for about 2 years (lacy, bika, kessler) until he moved to light heavy. until then, he merely dominated a belt. he certainly never came close to cleaning out or dominating light heavy
de la hoya is the best boxer who started in the past 20 years. his resume is ridiculous. never beaten convincingly at his best against top opposition, losing only one unanimous decision against mosley in a fight most thought he was the clear winner.
Manny Pacquiao Floyd Mayweather Jr Erik Morales Oscar De La Hoya Shane Mosley I'm seeing an awful lot of names mentioned that aren't eligible for this thread considering they started their careers before '90.
