Manny Melchor had an atrocious 38-35-6 but he managed to be an alphabet world champion.

Battling Jim Johnson's official record is 28-17-7, which doesn't even take into account all the newspaper decisions that he "lost," & yet he has stoppage wins over Harry Wills & Jeff Clark + held seemingly every top black HW of his era to a draw at some point (i.e.: Jack Johnson, Langford, Jeanette, McVea, etc.)

Monzon is actually better than his record of 87-3-9.
