That must have been amazing. How did you get involved with it? How did they select people for the sparring?
thats amazing man,you sparred with roy jones junior haha, did you hold your own, were you told to fight a certain way? did he go hard on you? im guessing it was kind of low key though saying it was so close to the fight.
Fookin awesome man, sparring with RJJ. I'm nowhere near that level, he'd decapitate me. I only spar local guys, some of whom do ok on a national (Dutch) level.
When in thailand I sparred some Japanese guy, didn't get his name, that was training for a big title fight. After training with us he was off to spar with kostya tszyu. I was told to go southpaw to help him out although after one round I was allowed to change back as I got a right spanking!!
Don't know anyone in Olympia. My friend had a match there a few years ago and I went with him. I didn't get matched myself so I just watched the show. Any good amateurs fighting out of your gym? I don't live in Nederland any more, but I check out what's happening sometimes. It seems like popularity of boxing is going up a little. Shame that nobody qualified for the olympics. Kocabas has been trying for a while, but he doesn't cut it at that level. I think that Peter Mullenberg of ABCC is a talent though, still a young man and does well in the German Bundesliga.
It's improving. My trainer said a few weeks ago that he loves what's going on at our gym at the moment, he said we have a team again. There was nothing much for a few years, and he's happy it's getting better. Our best amateur moved to Enschede, so that's a shame. We have one A-class fighter as far as I know, the rest is B and C-class. Some are moving up in the ranks, it's looking good for Olympia. I'm ashamed to say I don't follow Dutch amateurs. Newspapers don't write about them so it's hard to keep track.
