Yeah, exactly. Muay Thai gets all the attention, and boxing is just a beter sport! This blog is where I check out what's happening mostly. It's made by Pedro van Raamsdonk:

There is some interesting stuff on it.

The difficulty in the Netherlands is that there aren't enough boxers. When I was there I could get like 1-2 matches a year, so it takes ages to build up experience, especially if you're in the heavier weights. Only way to get similar amounts of matches to other countries is if you're close to the German border and can box matches there.

I remember you saying that you weren't interested in fighting any matches, but it's quite obvious that you love boxing. If I recall correctly, you're still under 33, ever thought of having a few matches - just for the fun of it?

I don't know if this counts, in fact it probably doesn't because it wasn't a full spar, but I've done some simple body sparring with Herol Graham when I've been back home in Sheffield. I assumed he didn't want hits to the head because of his whole detached retina thing I vaguely remember reading about.

Thanks for that link, I'll keep an eye on it.

As far as I know the maximum age is 30, I'm almost 32. For the most part I'm content with sparring, but I have to admit sometimes I wish I was 10 years younger.

ABA is equivalent to US Nationals. it's nothing like the Golden Gloves from what I've heard of it.

You should. This is from the rulebook of the NBB. I know guys that had their first match at your age. I mean, realistically, you're not going to become a top boxer, but why not have a couple of matches and enter the N-Class nationals or district champs just for the fun of boxing? You can potentially even make C-class if it goes well.

I've fought two guys who turned 34 a few days after the fight (they'd boxed before, stopped for a few years and come back for their last fairwell). Both times I lost narrowly and those *******s retired so I couldn't get a rematch!

I'm already doing better than I ever thought I would, becoming a top boxer was never my goal. I started at age 26, fat and extremely out of shape, and now I can hang with guys that are doing well in their fights. I'm really thinking about reconsidering now, the guy I often spar with just got promoted to B-class so I think I could do well at N or even C. I'm going to talk with my trainer about this next Monday. Thanks mate.

It's ok, people overseas put a lot of stock in the Golden Gloves and it is our second most prestigious tournament, but they don't use computer scoring or anything; USA Nationals is more like the ABAs.
