Debatable depending in what you consider his best weight but Henry Armstrong’s win over Lou Ambers in their first fight is a consideration as is Barney Ross v Tony Canzoneri, also at lightweight, either of their fights.

Then why don't people judge Tyson by the same token ?

What're you talking about? Literally nobody ever says Tyson was in his prime after his exile... like nobody at all.

Maybe it's easier to know in hindsight, but the likelihood of him being imprisoned seemed very low, especially with the political landscape changing drastically.

Does it come better than this? Arguably nr. 1 and nr.2 at LHW in their primes.

That was probably the case. I think it would be ideal with the fight happening maybe a year later. At least two fights more under his belt, one of them against Chuvalo.

Archie Moore vs Ezzard Charles. Arguably two of the most clever and impressive boxers ever. Both in the same era, in there primes what a treat. Does any film exist at all? I don’t think so but we can dream...

Ghost of Archie Moore are you still bitter he beat you? On a serious note, I’ve never heard this before can you say anything else on the matter?

He would show up at gyms to get work. You have heard the story about his first meeting with Kenny Norton? It was during that time...they sparred at the gym that was (or became) the Hoover Warzone gym.

Bull****. Plenty hold his losses against a roided Holyfield against him.

While being black in the 60s/early 70s, I wouldn't have been surprised, many people wanted to see Muhammad jailed.

He wasn't sparring regularly during the lay-off. He was Ellis's sparring partner for a week in late ´69 and in an interview at that time he says it's the first he'd done for years.

Yes, but that's because Holyfield wasn't prime either. No one says that Holy beat Tyson at his best. During all my time on this forum I haven't seen that said a single time.
