Cotto has always had overrated power (amongst other limitations) but his instinct, efficiency, technique and patience when it comes to following up on a hurt opponent have usually been quite impressive.
Pavlik is another one. I thought he was an accident waiting to happen once he crossed a good counterpuncher, but he really highlighted in the first Taylor fight the difference between what and what not to do when you have someone under the kosh. Taylor upon decking Kelly in round 2 was far too tense, overzealous and hasty in his followup; the polar opposite, in fact, of what Pavlik was upon returning the favour. Kelly himself has stated that knowing when he has a man hurt and acting accordingly was one of his biggest strengths, and I'd agree.
Several people have rightfully already mentioned Marquez, and the second Pacquiao fight interests me here. I think it was practically on the bell at the end of round 2 where Marquez landed a sort of inverted overhand right/left hook-come-uppercut one-two that had Pacquaio more hurt than I've ever seen him since the Singsurat loss back in 99. Call it overly speculative if you like (it probably is), but it makes for interesting thinking to imagine what the implications could've been had this happened a minute or so earlier with Marquez having the chance to follow up, though the chances are that he might still have untimely utilised his reliable old trick of walking face first onto the type of left hand that has no business whatsoever in landing.
Further up the weight scale, Klitschko the younger has a fair shout imo to being the best finisher around. At least when he decides to throw the safety booklet in the bin and really let loose; an occurrence that sadly too often seems to be rarer than it should be for a bloke with that sort of finishing ability.
That said, regardless of all the above waffle, somebody has already pointed out that finishing just ain't what it used to be in the various eras when the likes of Louis, Arguello, Robinson, Zarate and Moore were at it. Robinson in particular was so bloody good in nearly every area that his killer instinct (and at times, flat-out malice) is occasionally overlooked. Louis and old Archie were the gold standard though.

Haye is a wild finisher but his record suggests he is also a good finisher.

but doesnt that just make it all the more impressive?

its easy to bang somebody out when you have them in trouble and you have serious power so you throw a million shots at once knowing only one has to connect (Haye)

or to overwhelm your opponent with fast but accurate flurries which leave you opponent to dazed and confused to fight back (Khan)

True. He hasn't finished anyone of note yet. I expect him to bamboozle Maidana to an early finish this weekend though :yep

Montiel and JMM are the best around but there are other decent finishers like Lopez, Bute and Roman Gonzalez is a good shout.

I agree Amir Khan is a good finisher for sure, but he has yet to finish off anyone of real class so my judgement is reserved right now.
Froch...well he had Kessler hurt but failed to back that up, although he was superb against Taylor, didn't dive in, picked the shots and hurt his man badly.

As for Mad Matt Hatton, once the right hand lands, once that express hits, once he connects with your jaw, once the force of all those years of being in the shadows strikes, once all those fried breakfasts flow, its thank you and goodnight referee.

St Juste - Demers from last weekend was one hell of a finish.

Throws out a sort of defensive counterpunch hook, wobbles him, and follows up with 2 more in quick succession. 'Oh la la'.
