commentary was crap. They made it seem like Patterson was dominating when he wasn’t, he just wasn’t active enough. I gave it to him by a round from what I saw but it clearly falls in the realm of could of gone either way. Actually a draw would of been fare

    Floyd Patterson

    1. Johansson
    2. Moore
    3. Bonavena
    4. Chuvalo
    5. Machen

Patterson's resume is deeper than I thought it was and it has long been my contention that he is underrated.

Patterson has lot of fights that could of gone his way too, both Quarry bouts, Ellis bout, and Maxim bout. None of those losses and draw- were clear cut victories against him.
Ingo, Liston and Ali have the clear wins on him. Not bad. Got bombed out a few times but long career against solid comp

As everyone else seems to be re-watching the Ellis-Patterson fight, I did also. With the sound down, I might add. The last time I watched it I thought Cosell was the most one-sided announcer I have ever heard and so preferred to let only my eyes be the judge.

I had Ellis winning 9 rounds. Patterson didn't do much of anything the first half of the fight. He was simply bouncing up and down and feinting punches he never threw while Ellis kept popping the jab and landing one-twos. Patterson rallied strongly in the 13th and 14th but for me it was too little, too late, even with the knockdown in the 14th (with the sound off, I don't know if it was judged a knockdown or a slip) Valen gave the 15th to Ellis, so I assume Ellis did better in that round than the previous two.

Patterson dawdling away the fight without throwing punches is the way I saw the Maxim fight also.

This is what I thought as well. He's best known for being blown out by Sonny Liston twice, however Patterson gave Ali some trouble. He just didn't match up well vs big punchers thanks to his style and lack of reach combined with his below average chin. However he had fast hands with good skills for sure.

    Floyd Patterson’s top 5 victories

1 Johansson - Back to back kos of the champ and top contender is enough to put him on top
2 Moore - I wouldn’t see anything wrong putting him at number 1 but I’d give Johansson the edge
3 Bonavena - Good long time contender. Floyd was 37 to boot
4 Chuvalo - Was rated highly at the time
5 Machen - Good contender Patterson probably caught him at a good time or he’d be higher

Harris and Jackson were both highly rated fighters in their primes and you could make a case for putting either of them in the top 5

What is impressive about Patterson's resume, is that he was beating quality contenders in the mid fifties, and he was still beating quality contenders in the early seventies!

He beat Jackson and Moore in 1956, and then he beat Bonavena in 1972!

I will wait for Patterson voting to close before putting Igno in

I have to say, at first glance, Igno's resume is poor.

Vote when so and so is up. Pick the 5 best wins, rules are on page one. Only one name may be be used in the top 5. For example Bowe's best five can not include Holyfield twice. Tomorrow AM, we start on Ingo. No tech skills are needed.

Patterson's best five consisted of eight different fighters receiving votes. My respect for Patterson gone up a bit. He beat some of the same opponents Ali did and you can make case he looked just as good or better while doing it.

    Patterson's top 5

    Ingo 39 points
    Moore 32 points
    Bonevena 25 points
    Machen 12 points
    Chuvalo 6 points

Now playing, Jens Ingemar "Ingo" Johansson top five hits. A popular man, handsome by the standards of his profession, my hunch is something might be learned about the bottom portion of his five best. Due to a lovely holiday our friends at the UK gave us I'm extending the voting until Sunday. Who wants to lead off?
