When you watch Harada, there is another thing I recently noticed. His bouncing and 'hopping', which looks a bit frantic and a 'waste of energy', actually edges him closer and closer to his opponent. It is so subtle and deceptive I didn't notice it for ages, but it is definitely calculated as he does it every time. It seriously messed with Jofre and Famechon. Brilliant. My choice for this, since others have been mentioned, is Kuniaki Shibata. The guys co ordination between his ridiculously quick hands and his amazing footwork (some of the best I've ever seen), alongside punch slipping, is truly immense. For example, watch the first Vilaflor bout, or the Saldivar bout, and it is just a marvel to behold. He had his flaws (chin etc), but you would have to be a major ATG to out box and outmove him. Also, shout out to Willie Pastrano if he hasn't been mentioned (one of @red cobra's favorites if I remember). Forgotten guys would be Alfonso Lopez and Bernado Pinago. Both extremely fluid and completely co ordinated in the ring. Beautiful moves. This content is protected
I was just about to post about Julio here. Picture perfect, balanced, pressure footwork. His body lean always gave him multiple options from his punch arsenal.
Footwork? I'm gonna say Marvin Hagler in his prime. Say bout 77-83. Not flashy but effective, educated footwork. If you think I'm crazy check out some of his fights around this time. Best lead hand Sonny Liston. That jab and hook are as good as it gets.
My fault I wasnt paying enough attention to the OPs post. Now that I think about Hagler's lead right was about as good as it gets. I guess stick with Hagler.
Ismael Laguna and Ernesto Marcel. Colon boxing school - awesome footwork plus lead left and right hands
Footwork? Obviously Muhammad Ali. Lead hand? Larry Holmes had a great lead hand, personally though I pick 60's Ali to outjab Holmes. So, my answer for both is Ali
Some great shouts on this thread. I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned Joe Louis. Efficiency in action. Minimal but perfect foot positioning and terrific jab which he often hooked off.
