This may be a stupid thread but I'm hoping people can shed some light on the subject for me. At the lower weights I tend to see most of the hard hitting elite fighters go for a Reyes glove or sometimes everlast which says to me they are a punchers glove but Floyd goes for grant and having heard about his dodgy hands I can only assume they have better protection than the formentioned gloves. At heavy weight I have noticed that most of the big name hard hitters use grant e.g. Haye wlad vitali I find this odd as they seem to be a safety first glove, I have a theory that they may wear these gloves because they punch so hard they run a high risk of damage to there hands or on the other hand I could be chatting waffle I'm sure someone on here can clear this up for me.

Also on a side note I get the feeling that chisora may benefit from a different glove because he looks like he should be hurting opponents but they seem to brush his shots off like nothing maybe he just doesnt hit that hard?

Great post, sums my thoughts up really.

Reyes are the best punchers glove, they used to use horse hair in the gloves not sure if they do anymore? but they are hard and don't protect hands that much. Grant is for more defensive fighters/fighters with brittle hands due to the circumference of the glove it gives more protection to hand and also helps cover more and take more shots on gloves.

Everlast are decent for punchers, I think Chisora could do with them if he's got brittle hands as i believe the Grants are taking away from his power.

  3. Don't use BBE's unless you want broken wrists and tennis elbow.

BBE's are the worst gloves I have ever worn.

I tend to wear Everlast bust lace up Lonsdale are ok the velcro ones are ****.

I have worn Reyes and they are nice but I like my Everlast.

Fighters normally get the gloves at weigh in, put different pairs on to get a feel for them. Opposition can look at them i think to see if there ok. Then the board take them and produce them on the night.

Might be different with small shows?..

Reyes for life. Easier to ball a fist but Everlast will light you up as well.

Winning and Grant are great for protection but slowly killing the game.

Groves seems to hit hard enough with Grants, not sure they're quite the pillows they get made out to be although I've never tried them. BBE's genuinely make me think twice about watching Frank Maloney cards, if I was a pro and somebody handed me a pair of them to wear on fight night I'd assume I'd been the victim of a practical joke.
