Cleming and Berlenbach inspired me to start this thread, since they both turned me onto paying more attention to Page. What do you guys think were the most entertaining fights he was in?: Best I can tell, I have it: James Tillis Tim Witherspoon 1 (yes, Witherspoon 1) Gerrie Coetzee Mark Wills 1 Razor Ruddock Mark Wills 2 Tim Witherspoon 2 Terrence Lewis (both were floored) I am forever indebted to cleming for turning me onto the Wills fights, which are absolutely incredible.
Fights that I either haven't seen, or haven't seen in a while, or couldn't find any thing on, I was wondering about. Does anyone know anything about how good the following Page bouts were?: George Chaplin (2x) Stan Ward Marty Monroe Jimmy Young Larry Frazier Renaldo Snipes ( I have never bought a DVD, and this fight is not on youtube; Page and Snipes seems like a good matchup) David Bey Tony Tubbs Buster Douglas James Broad (I remember Broad knocked Page down late, and that this was a tough fight, but I don't remember how good) Joe Bugner Orlin Norris James Smith Damiani Bruce Seldon Jerry Ballard (draws are usually exciting) Jorge Luis Gonzalez (I've just put off buying the Page dvd to see it)
I guess since cleming and Berlenbach inspired me in this way, I should invite them and get their opinions: @cleming @Berlenbach
This content is protected This video opens with the full Berbick fight. It is a good fight, but it's all Berbick if I recall correctly. Cleming uploaded the Marks Wills fights a while back but you can't watch 'em now. You might give him a ring, those fights are definitely worth your time. I have never seen Bey, but I have seen a few rounds from the Broad fight, might watch the 14 mins. of it on youtube.
Tomorrow I am going to see the complete fight against Berbick, I had only found a highlight of 14 minutes, thank you very much !! I was looking for this fight for a long time, it was unexpected at the time that Berbick won
Glad to be of any help. I couldn't find anything on Bey and Broad that was the whole fight, so I will do some further looking as I am very interested myself.
I always saw him as a combo of '70s Ali and Bowe, then downgraded several times. I really liked the Wills fights. Not much more to say than that, other than that he clearly wasted his talent like most from that era did.
Yep. Perhaps worse than most of the 80s lot, he lost over and over and over again. Look at Thomas, Berbick, and Dokes though, they only lost a handful of times over their whole careers. They didn't do too badly.
He looks like a bona fide monster in the Marty Monroe fight. Just destroys a pretty decent guy who was coming off a stoppage of Eddie “The Animal” Lopez and a win over Lynn Ball (with an earlier victory over Leroy Boone when it looked like that might mean something for an up-and-comer (Boone became a journeyman after that). The LeDoux fight is a hard watch. I don’t think it’s hilarious at all. It’s a superior Page mocking and trying to humiliate a guy who just isn’t in his class. It’s a bad look. I see it this way: if you’ve got the balls to stand in front of Joe Frazier or a legit contender and do the Ali shuffle or load up a bolo punch with Roberto Duran or Marvin Hagler in the same ring, you’ve got minerals the size of beach balls. If you do it to someone who cannot lay a glove on you and is there gamely trying but just not good enough and you’re doing it specifically to taunt and humiliate, you’re a complete ass.
