Holmes trained 4 weeks. I think the truth gets a little underrated. Great Jab. Couldn't beat Tyson with the way he held his hand. Gave Holmes a great fight.

Holmes obviously wasn't himself when he fought Tyson so I'll say Tucker.

Ruddock was a tough out for anyone back then but I still say that '87 Tucker beats him.

best overall fighter - Tucker '87 (the nearest thing Tyson had to a tall boxer with decent skills, years later Tucker gave Lewis a tough fight)

best contender - Ruddock '91 (was looking to be a beast, emphasis on power over skill. his quick loss to lewis hurts Tyson's achievement in relation to this win but Ruddock had his brain knocked about a bit during those Tyson fights, so not much left by the time lewis got there)

name wise of course its Holmes, Spinks but they were next to useless as opponents. if Holmes had more time to get prepared he might have put up a better fight but as it was he wasn't even shot, he was dead and buried with his family visiting his grave once a year. as someone said, watch Holmes in his prime then look at him in the Tyson fight, different animals.

Mike lost to the best prime fighters he fought. Too bad he was past his best when he fought Holy and Lewis...

Holmes was the best guy overall, Tucker was probably the best guy that Tyson defeated at the time he met Tyson.

Tony Tucker, Razor Ruddock or Larry Holmes.

IMO Larry Holmes, despite being over the hill and 22 months out of fighting professionally.

The way he blew out Larry, I don't care what anyone says, was very impressive.

This thread just goes to show you that Mike Tyson has been extremely overrated.

Tyson lost to all his good opponents.
