Cuties are not strickly boxers IMO Ali was more of a boxer than a cutie but I will start my list....curious to see who were the best of the cuties that fought in the Heavyweight division...Remember not all boxers are cuties...and not all Runners were cuties...a cutie is a fighter than makes you miss, moves well in and out with pin-point well timed shots and makes you look bad... did Tunney,Ali,Conn qualify 1) Jersey Joe Walcott 2) Jimmy Young 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) 10)
ain't that a surprise 50s heavies in your list = overrated fighters. i'd love to see those 50s heavies against the 70s heavies. imagine ali, frazier, foreman and holmes v marciano, charles, moore and walcott. there's only one clear winner and jimmy young is below norton & quarry atleast in the 70s team - on a level with shavers & lyle
Given your definition of a cutie I'd say Eddie Machen and Chris Byrd seems to fit the bill. At least they often made opponents look bad.
The thread is about cute fighters, not who's better. Anyway Jersey Joe was exactly who came to mind when I saw this thread.
Mike the bounty Hunter was another one, although he never really got the big matchups. If he had, perhaps he'd be remembered better & he was certainly capable of springing upsets.
jersey joe's shoulder faints and dropping his arms to break his opponents concentration were beautiful. 10/10 for being cute
Chris Byrd fit the bill, most of the time, when he wanted to prove he was a puncher he lost focus...Chambers is a comer but not always fit but slick...but good ones for the list
Damiani clearly fits this bill. He was dominating Mercer until Ray busted his nose with a "lucky" punch, and decisioned Stevenson in a major amateur upset.
Haven't seen that in a while, but didn't Damiani mostly come forward and smother the longer ranged-Stevenson, instead of being a "cutie"?
Lee Oma from 50s if he applied himself &trained. Pastrano from that period, he was really elusive.Machen. Those guys come to mind.:happy
