Always wondered this, we never saw much of Tunney at heavyweight, so who's the best you think he could have beaten?

I really think he gives Marciano trouble, think Gene had the Chin to take his best.
Can't think of any top names post Patterson he could have beaten but sure there's some?

He has a chance against Louis.
If Conn can outbox him and survive that long, and only get taken out when he blew his load after going for the finish, then…

That's an interesting one, against Louis.
If Tunney could escape getting nailed as against Dempsey then yes.

    He said post Patterson y'all.

Tunney v Jimmy Young would be fascinating fight. I think he beats Tyson and Holyfield unless he gets the 97 version. Probably takes Holmes.

I feel Tunney is a 50/50 fight for a lot of the ATG HW pantheon.

The only way Tunney is beating Tyson or Holyfield is with a bat. Both of them make quick work of him.

Most of the post-Patterson era heavys are just too big for Gene, I can't recall Tunney beating a world class fighter that was taller and bigger than he alongside having a longer reach.

I definitely think he'd outperform expectations against Ali, Frazier, Liston, Holyfield and Foreman though. He'd give them fits even in spite of his likely defeat.

Are we sure that he'd step into the ring against anybody who wasn't white?

Its kinda wild to think Dempsey was only around Tysons current age when Liston won.

Remember those two muggers though? Tunney might need another long count to win this one

Do you think old Conn could beat old Louis? He did knock out that one guy at that gas station...

I agree, he already did the best he's gonna do. Even then, on paper, I think Jack, I just know better. Like Spinks and Tyson, on paper it's a good fight, but we know better.
