Rocky Marciano, Gene Tunney, Jack Johnson , Jack Dempsey weren't heavyweights. Joe Louis was barely a heavyweight by modern standards, had a worse chin than Wlad or Amir Khan. Fought for the most part white fighters so he clearly wasn't the best of anything but since the old time boxing experts told you he was you will believe .

    Larry Holmes feasted on nobodies

Liston's best win came over 170 pound Floyd Patterson.

Who did Tyson beat in his prime who was considered great?

The best 2 heavyweights would be George Foreman at his best and Lennox Lewis at his best.

I gave you the 2 best now this thread should be closed so nobody else can make a opinion when I gave you the facts.

I have had Rocky Marciano as my #3 for several years now, but he's really not much further ahead than Holmes, Johnson, Lewis and a few others. I guess beating all of the #1 ranked opponents of his era and retiring with a winning streak that has gone unbroken for nearly 60 years is what appeals to me most.

mcvey just because you copy and paste my point proves what? Wait you heard Joe Louis was the best fighter who ever lived right? How many times did Joe Louis fight Foreman, Tua, Tyson ect ect ect ? 0 times right? Wait but old timers say he would win so he would right?

Billy Conn a blown up middleweight who couldn't punch could rock Joe Louis and dominate him but clearly Foreman, Tyson and Tua, Lewis ect ect would be able to hurt Louis right? You may have 19,000 post but I am sure al 19,000 are bull**** points you heard somebody else makes.

He has a strong case, and perhaps a somewhat surprising one, given his style and physical limitations.

He certainly has as good of a case as anyone from a legacy standpoint. I don't know if any heavyweight will ever break that record or do so with the claim to having lineage. Its also commonly forgotten that he holds the highest KO % of any heavyweight champion in history. His opposition has been criticized by many ( including myself ) but regardless of what one thinks of a champions competition, beating the very best available is the only thing that matters at the end of the day, and unlike many champions he did just that...
