You could make an argument he beat Lewis in the rematch (well past Holyfields best days). The third Bowe fight he had hepatitis, so I don't hold that loss against him.

 

Heh, this is where the excuses start. Don't you understand. Bowe was a large heavyweight and Holyfield was small. So Evander's two losses against him don't count. (Forget that fact that Bowe was something of an overrated bozo to begin with)

And of course, Evander was WAY past his prime when he fought Lennox so those fights don't count either.:roll:

You'll see certain posters on this board (not to name names of course) who violently protest the ranking of Lewis above Holyfield. Why? Because they are so obsessed with Holy and so hateful of Lennox that they can't imagine anyone else could possibly have an opinion different than theirs.

Some of us are more reasonable when it comes to such rankings. I believe solid arguments can be made for either fighter since both were elite and at the top of their division. But, I'm not a biased nuthugger, so I can see past the hero worship that clouds the perspective of many others.

Well you could if you watched that fight with your eyes shut yes. If you watched the fight without Holyfield tinted glasses on you'd see that he won 4 rounds, 5 at best. He did better than the first fight where he won 3 rounds max but he still lost. He also employed the old head-butting tactics more in the 2nd fight, cos he knew he couldn't beat the man fairly - and he still

Doesn't matter how old he was, could you see Lewis getting ********* and dropped from a body shot from James Toney, even now? I can't.

The Holyfield 'legend' is made up entirely of his wins over a faded Tyson, end of story. Prime Tyson would have beaten the **** out of the guy, I believe prime Tyson would also have been a 50-50 fight with Lewis by the way.

I wouldn't ordinarily trash what was a great win for Holyfield but the Holyfield fans always come up with 'Holy was faded when he fought Lewis' crap, when he was actually considered to be in great shape BEFORE the event.

All spin and bull**** - especially the 'taken out in the early rounds by 2nd raters' line. Rahman and McCall were NOT 2nd raters they were top contenders.
