I would also like info on this.

I'd like to try a Rigondeaux style of defense but Im just not good enough yet. So I put my left guard up and it looks sort of like Daniel Ponce De Leon.

I need to have my guard up but Im also looking to slip punches and be able to move around.

    A Rigondeaux defense isn't somehting you try:lol:

He's been boxing since he was 6-7 years old, repeating every single movement literally a million times... You cant just copy what he does. You need technique, fluidity, reflexes & calmness/composure which can only be developed by >20 years of training

    Rigondeaux style defense:patsch:lol:

First, how do you define "High Guard"?

The fighters you named all have different "guards", the only thing in common is that they are a tad more square with their gloves above chin level.

In my Opinion, "High Guard" are defensive counter-punchers like Winky Wright, Josh Clotty, and Arthur Abraham.

Then you mention Canelo. I would also add that if you like his style, Cotto is even better to copy.

You mentioned Tyson, then you have to look at Patterson since he was the blueprint for that style, the Peek-a-Boo... which is different then the high guard. The high guard uses less head movement and more parrying/blocking then the slipping/bobbing of the Peek-a-Boo.

    And my favorite? Felix Sturm.

Iron Mike and Juan Manuel Marquez are both ATG fighters with different styles and high guards

Lol Rigondeaux has a different style of defending than say a Mikey Garcia.
They both require different footwork and different head movement.

Ricardo Lopez fought from a classic high guard. His technique was picture perfect!

Elbow is a formidable weapon for attacking since it quickly puts the other guy on the defensive. There is always the chance of being hit in the body, Cooney was trained to hook to the head and to the body eventhough the average fighter would go on the defensive.

Floyd is mean with the high guard
so is Winky....but it depends on how you define high guard, i look at it with gloves held 4 inches or in from ur eyebrow level...enough to still jab and use head movement
