He uses it to further embarrass himself by lying.

You calling someone obsessed is hilarious, I'll give you that.

BTW, will you admit that you lied, or you will stay silent?

Usyk has a killer southpaw jab.

Holmes' jab is the pinnacle but I actually prefer Ali's.

It's thrown faster, thrown on the backfoot, thrown with crazy variety, corkscrews into the forehead and eyes, cut and swelled up faces, doubled, tripled, in first career it was thrown to the body with speed and good disguise and he could hook upstairs off it as well.

As great as Holmes' was, I think that Ali's would be harder to deal with.

If I were to rate my favourite HW jabs, my top 4 are:

    Ali, Holmes, Louis, Liston

After that I have Foreman, Wlad, Tyson and then a few others.

I'm the same and have publicly picked Ali multiple times in recent history. I also like how 60's Ali was noticeably harder to counter on the jab.

Personally i wouldn't have Tyson as a mention because it was used far too infrequently. It's a hammer and gave Holmes plenty of trouble but over the course of his defenses i didn't see it enough - for obvious reasons. It was a sweet little side weapon at times tho.

I can concede on Tyson as yeah, very underused, but when he threw it, a brilliant jab.

It's strange - everything he did well was virtually gone with consistency by the time he's flown back from Tokyo.

Yeah Mike Tyson had a jab but it was underused.

I remember the Tony Tucker fight Tyson actually outjabbed him.

What'd you think of Louis' jab, mate? I think it's number one. He can jab while moving, use it to control range, use it as a counter, hook off it, double or triple it up, interrupt people or measure distance as good as anyone. In terms of dealing damage, it's up there with Liston, Holmes or Foreman. Just look at Ezzard Charles' face after fighting him. He knocked a guys gumshield out with it; cut open Baer's face like he had a bayonet; hurt guys nearly 50lbs heavier with it and had a ref say he was scared somebody would get his neck broken by Louis' jab.

Even though he can break you with a jab as good as anyone, it was best when he used it as the gold codes for his entire arsenal. Obviously he'll work his way in closer with it, but he's very good at just getting defensive patterns down and breaking them. For example, against Conn, he'd use the jab to nail him while he looks for those moments where he'll explode; against Braddock, he's knocking Braddock's hands out of the way to make way for the rest of his offensive; against Max Baer, he's using the jab to unravel the holes in Baer's guard. There's dozens of other examples, too. That's not mentioning even just the basics of drawing jabs back at him which he'll counter.

Plus, who else at 6'1ish was regularly out jabbing guys 6'5+ with 7/8/9 inches of reach on him?

For me an elite jabber, dominates and outboxes everyone with his jab alone. There's 3 clear with Wlad, Usyk and Holmes. Buster Douglas had elite skill levels in this facet but didn't prove it often enough. The level below that are Ali and Lennox. Throw in Fury and Vitali, mainly because of their arm range and athleticism is seeing very few men in history outjab them. Fury more skilled than Vitali ofcourse.

The rest of the men on the list, there's others that would outjab them or outbox them with the jab and perhaps they could beat them with other methods, but it wouldn't be their jabs

The bolded aren't to do with the quality of the jab, they're to do with combination punching

You say he measures distance with it, when in fact he tends to throw short, partly for tactical reasons to draw leads but also because he didn't really dominate with his jab.

If Louis was an elite jabber he doesn't lose so many rounds against Conn, Walcott and Schmelling 1.

Tripling up the jab, is a jab related skill. Hooking off the jab involves changing how you throw your jab; just because they're combination punching skills, doesn't mean they're not jab related skills.

You can do two things? He absolutely measures distance with the jab, it's why he has some of the best distance management in the division's history. If Louis only threw his jab short, how did he out-jab so many guys who were much taller with much longer arms?

The jab was his most reliable weapon against both Conn and Walcott, and the issue which Schmeling showed with Louis' jab, he fixed, something Holmes never did.

Even when he has a point - like Wlad clinching a lot - he has to go bury that point under a big sloppy turd of a post. If he'd just calm down in the Wlad discussions he'd be so much more effective. I thought it was a hate boner for Ukrainians in general but he seems ok with Usyk, so it can't be that. I'm starting to think that Wlad really did do something irl to this dude.

I find Joe Louis jab was great at use to set up with other punches for the most part it's not a shot he relied on the most to completely shut out fighters fighters IMO like say Holmes or Wlad or Lewis did. Especially when he faced movement.

I liked the use of it against Tommy Farr. Felt like Louis combinations weren't working as well as usual (Farr was pretty durable and took Louis bombs so maybe Louis decided not to put as much a effort to get him out of there) so he reverted to the jab and that's what won him that fight. So perhaps he could have dominated entire fights with jab alone more if he really wanted to. Obviously makes sense because Louis was a little shorter in height and reach than other great jabbers so you can't expect him to use it from range like Lewis and Wlad who are like 4/5 inches taller and guys like Ali and Holmes who are 1/2 inches taller who are more or natural outboxers than Louis.
