This may have been posted before but I thought I'd bring it back. This guy fought the best and was never knocked down. Only stopped once at the end of his career and that was by retirement between rounds https://www.ringtv.com/490344-best-faced-juan-laporte/
I'll always recall Juan's fight with Barry McGuigan. Consensually The Clones Cyclone's best performance. La Porte was a very tough and competent fighter.
LaPorte has always been frustrating to watch; love the chin, best I've ever seen I guess; he also had real power and good skills, can't fault him for any of that. He was just far too economical with his punches and didn't have a very good set of finishing skills. Maddening. But this is a good read, and he seems honest enough in his assessments.
Laporte sounds credible although that pick of Mario Miranda as the biggest puncher is a weird one but with that said i wasnt the guy taking the punches so who knows.
LaPorte is the second fighter I know of who faced Sanchez and said he wasn't anything special in the power department. Castillo told me Sanchez "couldn't bust a grape." LaPorte fought just about everyone, though. Tough fella with good skill. I recall someone telling me that he was never quite the same after a limo trip with Don King.
Chavez Sanchez Gomez Nelson Pedroza Tszyu Lockridge McGuigan Castillo Molina You knew this one was gonna be a good read with competition like that. I think he may well have fought the best quality of any fighter in his era.
