BEST I FACED: MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER

I favor SRL as the most well rounded. Hagler and Duran are supreme as well tho. Hearns is the least well rounded but has the greatest weapon and hue dimensions.

 

Weird take ay? Leonard sparred hard in private for the fight of his life but Hagler took it easy on him assuming he’d be too rusty?

 

This is so silly. Marvin hadn’t fought a scheduled 15-rounder for nearly three years by the time he fought Leonard.

 

Honestly tho, Duràn really did have the good style,he may have lacked outboxing ability early on but he made it up by using his ring IQ to force his enemies into a bully fight,and Duràn wasn't exactly a puncher,a speeder,nor a sniper, he's all in one, that's why I pick him, he's also good with southpaws somehow.

 

Hagler did love a 15-rounder, so much he was stripped of the WBC title in 84 (reinstated a month or two later) for fighting Hamsho in 15 when the WBC permitted it be only 12 and Marv insisted on the 15 (as originally stipulated in his contract with Bob Arum). However, as Pat mentioned, this was three years later and he'd accepted 12-round fights by then, so no real excuse.

 

I'll stick with Leonard, and that's no knock on Duran.

 

Hagler is one of my favorites, but his sour grapes routine does get a little old after 20-odd years. The guy beat you Marv, get over it.

 

Depends on one's point of view. I thought the Camacho fight was glorious, as I was so sick of listening to Leonard gloat for over a decade. SRL was a great fighter, but one egotistical SOB. Matched only by RJJ.

 

Still Hagler. Ray is a clever fox though. Fast, mobile, working in flurries. Knew how to appeal to some judges instead of trying to contest the scorecards through punishing punches.

Marvin should not have gone soft in the early rounds. Then again, Leonard would never approach him had he not shown signs of slowing down.

I adore the the Four Kings (with Benitez as the uncrowned fifth). Such a fantastic part of the sport.

 

That's why I always says the 5 kings, because Benitez also deserved to sit in the same throne as them.
