BEST I FACED: MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER

Ray walked right through the palace gate, snatched the crown jewel from him and walked out with a smile.

 

There were no lumps on Hagler's face from the Leonard fight. you're thinking of John Mugabi, who softened Hagler up for him

 

with the help of two near sighted judges who don't know how to score a fight. One of them from Mexico

Its amazing how some people like to deceive themselves

 

I've watched that fight dozens of times and never gave Hagler anything less than a 2 point lead over SRL. Leonard was gifted with a bizarrely inconsistent Hagler in the first four rounds, and things went downhill for him shortly after that imo.

To me, the judge that scored the fight not even close in favor of SRL would've scored the Tillis-Weaver fight a sweep for Tillis.

 

One judge was way out of line, no doubt.

But Ray won more rounds.

It’s a close fight, granted, but people act like Marvin won 10 rounds and it was some outright robbery. Those people are the ones who are deceiving themselves.

 

Leonard - Lost to Duran, Hagler, and Hearns....I never quite understood why he was always rated so high in the fab 4 discussions. Hagler was a close fight, but I think he still won.

 

It was definitely close.

 

Leonard beat Roberto Duran (twice), Thomas Hearns (one was a draw but Leonard agreed Hearns should have gotten the decision) and Hagler.

He's the only one of the Fab Four who beat all the other three.

It's pretty simple.

or saying that Leonard won more rounds. He was clearly inferior to Hagler.

He actually confessed to boxing duo Clancy & Ryan that he could not compete with hagler unless he lost his speed. Would NOT take the fight unless Hagler was absolutely past his prime

How can even the staunchest Leonard fan go through life like this and then brag "Leonard beat Hagler"? with a straight face!

We saw what happens to Leonard when faced with speed; he's badly outclassed

so I can see why Leonard would have to wait five years - as long as it takes for major decline

I can see why he would duck a Michael Nunn, and switch to the much uncoordinated Lalonde

and yet you keep up this act that "Leonard was great"

You are clearly deceiving yourself

How about you post your scoring of the fight, round by round, and show us how Marvin dominated lol?

If it was any two other fighters who fought the exact same fight — say Vinnie Paz (in the Leonard role) vs. Robbie Sims — nobody would call it a robbery. They’d say it was a close fight and Sims gave away too many early rounds and dug himself a hole.

But of course a lot of people put a lot of stock in how Marvin was going to get his huge crowning win and ‘shut up/mess up’ Ray Leonard … and he got outboxed and outfoxed by a guy who had only fought once in 5 years.

I get it. It’s embarrassing. Heck, it’s humiliating. Mr. ‘Destruct and Destroy’ wasn’t so marvelous on that night and he froze in the big stage much like he did against Vito Antuofermo and Roberto Duran (although he pulled it out against the lightweight).

Most people accept reality. A few, like yourself, close their eyes and put their hands over their ears and go nah-nah-nah and tell themselves their guy won.

Close fight. Leonard edged it. And the tough pill is MMH gave away the early rounds by fighting orthodox and has himself to blame.

 

LOL. So Ray was hidden away in some hyperbaric anti-aging chamber and was actually getting younger while Marvin was an 80-year-old man when they fought.

Yada, yada, yada. We’ve heard it all before.

 

I never understood either but apparently, these people are easy to fool

it's funny how they never bring up the very peculiar fact that he never once defended his 160 pound title.

I think he was afraid of the middleweights, especially Nunn

His fans NEVER like it when anyone brings up his losses to Norris and Camacho

he was even knocked out by his sparring partner, YOUNG Quincy Taylor!

and I truly believe that if faced with a prime version of Hagler or Nunn, the loss would have been a disaster

Leonard knew this and didnt want to get embarrassed.

 

I don't see what any of that has to do with him beating Hagler.

Wait, one part of it does: he was knocked out in sparring by Quincy Taylor -- with headgear and big gloves -- a few days before he fought Marvin ... and yet Hagler couldn't do as good as YOUNG Quincy Taylor.

Man, that's gotta hurt.
