Best I Faced: Tony Tucker

Yeah, I liked the article. I think Tucker is a good guy and his points were all very honest.

maybe I should have just said that, but you know me, I just can’t help myself.

Would have liked to have seen Tucker in there with Cooney instead of Spinks. I think he takes care of Gerry late in a one sided fight. and a high profile win at that stage of the game helps his career a ton. And puts him on the map for the average boxing fans who have no idea about a guy until they had a showtime/hbo victory.

Yes that would have raised Tuckers profile a whole lot. He could definitely have forced a title challenge from that against either Tyson or Spinks.

I would have also liked to have seen Tucker challenge Spinks or Tyson for a title off the back of beating Douglas in a non title fight. That would have been the right way around, but I guess that was not Tony’s fault.

 

The quality of the writers that Ring Magazine uses has obviously deteriorated.

Tucker's "Ignominous" record is nothing of the sort if put in context. He lost to absolute prime Tyson and went the distance, winning three or four rounds in their unification fight for the undisputed HW title.. I wouldnt really call his performance "listless" either.

Tucker seems very honest. The long layoff and drug abuse undoubedly hampered his post Tyson carrer and in truth he never looked as good again after the Tyson fight. His speed of hand and foot was diminished. Still it was impressive he went the distance with the rising Lewis when he (Tucker) was clearly well past his best.
