I'd put Pinklon Thomas somewhere in the honorable mentions. Holmes at heavyweight is my No. 1, but I'll go with the earlier poster and give Sweet Pea the overall nod.
has anyone mentioned Thomas Hearns yet? I looked through some of the posts and no one mentions Hearns. Hearns destroyed Leonard Benitez Duran and Hill with it.
You can make arguments for most of those guys and a few others... All had their own advantages like you stated.... Wlads has a great jab and the rangiest,, but i believe Liston,Holmes,Ali and probably WIllliams reach were the same.. Ali,Holmes,lLouis and probably WIlliamswas quicker but not as powerful as WLads..... I thik Liston,Foremans jab was heavier... How bout Riddick Bowes? Underrated powerful and accurate.Jab.. Same with Pinklon strong and quick... PRime Page,Tubbs very quick and on point.... Moorer had an excellent jab too. Almost forgot Buster Douglas...Cant think of too many that would outjab a motivated Buster.
Lewis had a good jab, but he wasn't an ATG jabber. He had a more complete offensive arsenal than Wlad, but Wlad's jab is both faster, and IMO, clearly has more impact. Lewis had fights where inferior opposition walked through his jab without many problems. They didn't usually walk through the other stuff, but there you go. I have yet to see an opponent shrug off Wlad's jab. I still think Holmes is the heavyweight jabbing king. I agree with all the shoutouts to Thomas, Douglas, and Bowe, too. Ali had a great jab, but it lacked the true stopping power of others. It was incredibly fast and sharp, though. All time, all weights? Thats much, much harder. Hearns' jab was terrific. As was Marvin Hagler's. As was Pernell Whitaker's. Not sure there is a clear winner, pound for pound.
heavyweight jab or all around? I pick Thomas Hearns or Larry Holmes. They had incredible jabs and quick right hands. Guys nowadays do not have the skills to fight like those two so many years ago.
Agreed dont get where all these Lennox shoutouts are coming from... Had a solid one when he used it... But seem to paw and use to range guys... Those other hws mentioned had way better jabs than Lewis.
Yeah Lennox used his jab more like a sensor to locate the guy to throw his right hand. Larry Holmes jab was incredible. Foreman's was good because it was so hard, and Evander Holyfields was good because it was busy.
Larry Holmes of the heavyweights, and pound for pound either Sweet Pea, Hagler or Hearns. It's actually quite difficult to pick all time best p4p jab as at different weights they are used for different purposes and/or have different impacts upon fights.
