wladimir. probably the best reason for this to me at least is his 5th round against brock. up until that round brock was being awkward and smart enough to make it a messy fight. i believe wladimir was winning those rounds, but not convincingly. however when steward said to wlad to step up the pace, and put some more weight behind the jabs (well i think it was something along those lines. hard to remember), wladimir came out, and hit brock with 50 jabs in that round. at the end of it brock looked really negative going back to his corner, not to mention swollen up from the jabs. 2 rounds later he was out cold. another example would be the rematch verses brewster. despite who theories you might have about brewsters health going into the match, wladimir nearly knocked him out with the jab alone! brewster hardly got tagged by a clean right hand, and only took 1 or 2 hooks and a uppercut in those 6 rounds. wladimir, playing it safe naturally (who could blame him?) decided to jab the **** out of brewster. steward even commented after the fifth round, i think, that "if you keep on going the way your you'll pretty much knock him out with the jab alone" or something similar to that. definately wladimir's jab is the best. other fighters in other divisions might have spectacular jabs, but im hard pressed to think of someone who has such a decisive, punishing jab.
i didnt have room to put him, but george foreman had a great jab. gil clancy said his jab was right up there with sonny liston. golota's was nice too especially pre-car accident.
I have always been awestruck by Lennox's jab. IMO it was probably his very best weapon. It was so fluid and smooth, yet abso-****in-lutely crushing. I was happy/surprised to see Lennox on the choice list once I opened the thread, I just haven't seen too many people rave on about his jab, but it was bad ass as it gets IMO. But having said all that, Wlad is the only time I've ever seen a man kick the **** out of another top shelf boxer until he quit on the stool with only his jab. (Brewster II).
Lennox. Winky's was more dominating P4P. Quartey's was stronger, P4P. But Lennox's jab was the most effective and produced the best results. More wins and titles, thanks to the 1-2 and the looooong jab.
:huh Lewis has a long reach and decent timing/accuracy etc, but his jab was NOT 'crushing' - in fact the word that comes to mind when I think of Lewis jab is 'pawing' - it was great range-finder for his atomic right cross. However, as a weapon in and of itself, Lewis jab was certainly not in the same league as the likes of Holmes, Liston, or even(in the last 15yrs) a prime Bowe.
