Winky has nowhere near the best jab of the last 15 years. It is reasonable but miles below Whitaker. There is nothing spectacularly good about it, it is a myth.
Winky has a great jab. He gets my vote. Might not be the best jab of the last 15 years but out of the poll options, yeah, why not.
just checked the results after last posting on this thread, and i'm amazed oscar got more votes that whitaker, who had an excellent jab. i voted quartey though. oscarsexuals rallying behind their man:yep
The workrate of it, combined with it working well with Wright's defense, combined with it being the majority of Wright's offense, is where that slight myth comes from. You'll notice people like to vote someone like Wright or Quartey, because the jab was their main weapon, but not someone with much more variety, but a much better, more versatile jab, like Whitaker. Whitaker has the best jab of anyone on that list, and possibly the best I've seen.
Quartey...he had one of the most powerful jabs (in a p4p sense) that I've seen in recent memory. Lewis is a close second. He really sharpened it later in his career and it was the most effective jabs (used it to really impose his will and control fights) in heavyweight division sense Larry Holmes. But still, none will ever compete with my man Holmes.
Oscar's jab was never really effective, it was more of a tap tap jab. Mosley, Tito, and Chavez never really had to respect Oscar's jab. Oscar's jab is mainly used to setup his combinations. In his second fight with Mosley even though Oscar outlanded Mosley, it was usually those tap tap jabs, never really effective punches, apparently the judges didn't see it as winning rounds. It was the same scenario in the Tito fight as well.
