Which light heavyweight do you feel overall was the best once he turned heavyweight?

I left out Billy Conn and Gene Tunney I'd like to keep the discussion on fighters from the 1950's on....

I might get some heat for this but personally I feel Michael Moorer as a heavyweight was the most effective of the group. Ezzard Charles a very close second...

Ezzard Charles, surely? Archie Moore of course. Gene Tunney's heavyweight run might be the most overrated. Michael Spinks' is more impressive.

Fitzsimmons did his thing, too. I really like what Billy Conn accomplished. Greb essentially went undefeated against the big boys.

Tommy Loughran might be the best with a subpar record.

Ezzard Charles is the only one who got any sort of title run going, so I think I have to say him.

Moorer can't match Charles' LHW run. He can't match his HW run.

    So that's a resounding no.

They might think that four fights at heavyweight was not enough to build the case.

I would say it's a toss up between Spinks and Charles....

Michael Moorer had a pretty decent run too..

All of these fighters in the poll had tremendous boxing skills but I just feel Moorer was the most natural heavy of the bunch and this would give him an edge head to head vs the group in a heavyweight fight. I think pretty much out of the group H2H there isn't any match ups you could make that you could pick a sure winner.

I voted for Patterson by a hair over Charles. But, I have no problem with this ranking.

All three of them would beat ponderous Michael Moorer.

Ever noticed that almost nobody successfully moves up to heavyweight? We see guys move from Welter to Light from Light to Welter from Feather to Light all the time and be successful.

Yes but its much different moving to heavyweight because heavyweight is the only division where someone can have a significant size advantage on you not only naturally but on the day of the weigh ins and the fight.
