Best Light Middleweight fighter: Mike McCallum, Winky Wright, or Terry Norris

McCallum is the best of the three. He would have stopped Norris, and handily beaten Wright. Norris was an amazing offensive fighter. But, McCallum was too good and too tough to lose that firefight. Quite frankly, I think both McCallum and Norris are significantly better than Wright. Wright had a late career rally beating some great names who were no longer great fighters. In reality, he was never the man in his own division.

 

Aww man this is a good one ...3 excellent fighters. Im biased towards Norris

 

I had Wright winning againt Vargas and Jermain Taylor

 

McCallum.

 

Wright's conservative, defensive style almost always kept him close in fights. Both of those fights were close. He exposed just how poor Taylor's ring IQ really was. But, I still thought Taylor squeaked it out. Vargas was always a step ahead of Winky in their fight. I thought he won comfortably .

 

1) McCallum 2) Norris 3) Wright

McCallum is the clear number one for me, based on having never lost at 154 and his all-round game at the weight. Norris and Wright are inter-changeable so if you asked me tomorrow, I could easily switch them around.

Both Norris and Wright could be their own worst enemies at times. Norris' chief shortcoming was his complacency and arrogance, whereas Wright occasionally showed tactical naivety. Without all those knockdowns the Vasquez fight was pretty damn close, for instance, but he hadn't yet learned how to deal with crude, rugged operators like that and made Vasquez's job easier for him by trying to duke it out in close quarters (albeit he deserves immense credit for his bravery and resilience in lasting the full twelve, as he never had his legs under him in the last three or four rounds and his corner could easily have been forgiven for pulling him out). Similarly, while I still think he beat Vargas by a couple of rounds or so, what was he doing gifting away the twelfth like that?

But McCallum, what an operator. Of all his title defences at 154, I think his dissection of Milton McCrory would be my favourite. Fantastic display of aggressive, front-foot counter punching.

I think McCallum was the cream of the 3. All 3 of them are among guys I like to watch. As a teen I think Norris was among my absolute favorites to watch

 

McCallum hands down. Winky and Norris are all time greats as well but the Body Snatcher is one of the most complete fighters ever.

 

I think they are three of the four best, the other being Tommy Hearns. And personally I'd have The Hitman at no. 1 for beating Benitez and flattening Duran, although McCallum runs him mighty close.

In terms of H2H, I'd actually give Norris a decent chance of beating McCallum, if he could stick to boxing. He had the natural speed to give him problems. If he got cocky though, he'd be in trouble.

Wright was an absolutely rock solid boxer but lacked a bit of sparkle and I think both Norris and McCallum would outpoint him.

McCallum is my pick. Dude was a beast. H2H he beats most.

 

I wouldn't call Winky all time great or Norris. Hall of famers yes. And Mike? That term is really thrown around easily. Winky Wright all time great?

I personally hold Winky in high regard. Two dominant wins over Sugar Shane, Trinidad, Mckart, Quartey and I thought he beat Taylor at Middleweight. I guess we will agree to disagree.
