Prime Carlos Ortiz

 

I don't see him beating a prime Ortiz, but Buchannan for me is one of the best lightweights ever. There is a possibility he has a good one with Williams, who knows.

I'd pick Buchanan over Julio Chavez, Castillo, Ambers and give him a good shot at Henry Armstrong and Ross

 

Wow after watching that Video I think I have been underrating Buchanon. The man had some serious skills.

Given the oft mentioned opinion that roberto didnt go too well against movers,what does a 21 year old beating kenny mean in regards to this opinion?
Or would we not consider kenny a 'mover'?

 

Duran didn't really struggle against movers per se.It was just when he fought fighters far more concrned with surviving, minimising exchanges and generally staying out of range he tended t somewhat phone in his performance somewhat if they weren't ofering much offensively.

the fight with Buchanan was an earlier Duran with somethign to prove and at his most aggressive.BUchanan was a far superior pure boxer and multidirectional mover to Bizarro, fernandez and co...just nowhere near as negative.

Maybe Chavez among modern counterparts. A bout with Ross would've been fantastic. I definitely do not favor him over Armstrong though, given how a young, swarming Duran handled him.

 

Yes.he moved around the ring beautifully.Great multi-directional mobility and variety in his footwork.
