With Argentina getting some attention from the World Cup I figured this needed an appreciation for boxers of Argentina. Argentina is known for producing some fine and unique fighters. What are some fights involving Argentinian boxers that you think are the most memorable throughout boxing history? Whether it be great fights, great performances, historical moments, etc.

@Jel this thread is inspired by your previous thread Five of the best: Japan

In terms of being historically significant/memorable the biggest has to be Dempsey vs Firpo.

South America has historically been underrated as a boxing location.

If you look at the rankings since they began, South American fighters were concisely penetrating them, in every weight class.

A boxing rich history no doubt. Monzon and Locche are the headliners but warriors like Galendiz and Castro provided some amazing moments.

Castro knocking out Jackson and Maidena punking Broner are some of my personal favorites.

Monzon and Baldimor were convicted of awful crimes that no doubt hurt their legacies.

When I think of Argentinian fighters, I think of a particular type - rugged and strong and looking a lot like Juan Roldan or some variation of his look. But some of the best have been canny boxers - Locche, obviously, plus Monzon and Galindez were the best three Argentine fighters of their era.

In terms of fights, Galindez-Kates was one of the best fights of the second half of the 70s and was one of the best light-heavyweight fights of a golden age for that division. Castro-Jackson was a crazy one, too.

There are plenty of others no doubt, but those are the ones that stand out in my mind at the moment.

Come off this minor league **** here, wouldja? With Baldomir, you're comparing a thuggish, "one trick pony" lout here with what can be termed as a thoroughly mediocre body of achievement, and NO legacy with a bonafide great among greats in Monzon, regardless whether you've learned to compartmentalize, and separate out his Monzon's murder of his wife with the greatness of his accomplishments IN the effin' ring. Fukkin grow up dude and apply some mature judgemental calls and quit insulting the intelligence of the lifelong fans here who can cut it in using their powers of judgement and discernment in this forum.

**** you man! I said nothing about his accomplishments in the ring which were no doubt great. I will say whatever the **** I want about a woman beating/murdering piece off **** and a child molester and there is nothing that you can do about it mouthbreather. I didn't compare Baldomir and Monzon as fighters you dumb ****. You want to praise him go ahead. I will call him a great fighter and a terrible person which he absolutely was.

If you’re suggesting we can’t or shouldn’t bring up Monzon being a murderer … we’ll have to disagree on that.

Compartmentalize what you want but that’s what he is.

Argentina to me will forever be the land of the draw. More draws fought in that country than the rest of the world combined I’m quite sure.

You know I knew Monzon had a few draws but after looking it up I was surprised to see nine draws on his record. Locche had 14!!!

I guess I better be careful so I don't hurt the feelings of the wife murdering , ultra Monzon fan that is Michael Mullen. Lol

I think what he meant was how monumental their wins over Benvenuti and Judah were. Remember, one was a hall of fame atg and the other a ppp entrant at the time.

Their outside the ring non-deeds notwithstanding, I rank those among Argentina's greatest boxing moments too.

When i think of boxers from Argentina as @Jel already said, Galindez scoring a miraculous last round KO vs Kates with blood streaming down his face. In one of greatest Light Heavyweight fights ever

And also Jorge Castro scoring a Rocky like comeback, against John David Jackson whilst on the verge of being stopped.

And you know the thing is..thanks to Satellite TV..ive never set foot outside North America in my life, but for the last 20 years i have been watching live boxing every weekend from Argentina....and a lot of those fights ARE indeed close enough to be a draw or one-two points off!!

In recent times, it was Baldomir over Gatti in atlantic city. Out toughed him and went toe to toe and how many guys would even try that with Gatti? A journeyman who got the title beating Judah, if memory serves. Nice to see those kind of fighters get a few nice paydays

    I'm sensing an entavention.

Plenty of quality from Argentina and that soccer win was immense. Particularly the topless spunks!
