Don't get me wrong Hopkins had a terrific reign. But the calibre and quality of opponents that Hagler and Monzon were simply far, far superior.

Lockett would whip a prime Hagler. Rubio would easily outpoint him.

Yeah okay Hearns wasn't a natural middleweight but he was a far more dangerous opponent than Trinidad or DLH at the weight. Christ even Roldan and Mugabi were better and much tougher opponents than what Hopkins faced most of the time.

You might be right. His trash talking in his Welsh accent might've bamboozled Hagler and Lockett could've snuck in with a ko!

Hagler would've only need to look at Rubio and the fight would be done.

First off, Mugabi wasn't even all that talented. He wasn't a natural MW either. De La Hoya was definately more talented than Mugabi. I don't know anything about Roldan, so I won't comment on him.

Mugabi wouldn't have went down from a tap to the body. The whole Hopkins - DLH event was a ****ing farce from start to end.

At the end of the day the greater credibility will always lie with Hagler and Monzon.

Tap? That was a perfectly placed shot; chopped liver with Hopkins sauce. Hopkins would've taken Mugabi apart. That would be an easier fight for Hopkins than Hoya. You're not going to seriously tell me that Mugabi was a better fighter than Hoya?

Im not taking sides here, but i find it interesting people downgrade hopkins best wins coming against non middleweights, and then talking up haglers. Considering Mugabi, Duran, Hearns, and SRL were also all not middleweights. Just an observation. I do realise that duran, hearns and srl are in a class of their own and are formidable opponents despite the weight.

No of course not! DLH had better skills. But we're specifically not speaking about those fights overall.

Look, bottom line is Hopkins wont be remembered in the same way as Hagler and Monzon are and will remain to be. Hopkins reign was dull and littered with safety first options. Howard Eastman??

And more often than not Hopkins stank the place out.

Stick Duran, Hearns and SRL against any middleweight or non middleweight that Hopkins faced in his reign and they'd beat them.

hopkins is a distant last place in terms of quality of opposition at middleweight, he fought nobody in terms of solid natural middleweights in his title reign, tito was a blown up ww, and so was oscar, and hopkins lost to the only solid middle he fopught in jt, well he did beat a green glen johnson and that was it, hopkins middleweight career is the definition of overrated, his middleweight title reign in terms of quality of comp is worse than calzaghes supermiddle reign, and that wasnt good
