And that was a fight he needed to secure a title shot in his 1955 comeback having lost to Ralph Jones already. I was honestly just jogging memory on those, I apologize if you caught a nasty whiff of unintended SRR bias. Abrams was amazingly the #3 MW when he fought Robinson and I notice now that I left out he beat Villemain twice. You should check out my most recent posts on him questioning how much he'd of chased a Thomas Hearns fight if he was in the era given his history  You can be Senya13 Jr, you have a problem with him. I don't mind, Robbo's goin' nowhere. I'm so interested in this topic that I immediately railroaded it into a Sweet Pea discussion. Nobody else is saying anything. :conf

The AP also had Jack Dempsey as the #6 fighter of all-time when the question should be whether he's even a top ten heavyweight. They aren't to be trusted. :yep

McGrain would be dismayed by the lack of Holman Williams on this poll.

Holman Williams has the best set of wins. McGrain told be that once, but like 5 times.

B-Hop doesn't have a case for best resume, much as I love the old, manipulative *******. A decent enough lot he ruled over, but it's his supreme dominance at the weight and H2H ability that earn him a spot on the ATG Middleweight lists. Longevity, too. Even if we're just limiting it to 160, 'Nard was still defending that title at 40.

I think supreme dominance is primarily the case for Monzon, Hagler and Hopkins alike. Quality of opposition can be highly subjective when discussing contender-level guys who don't particularly jump out in any type of defining fashion.

I know he doesn't have the best resume, but I saw you and SJS active and bumped it for that reason.

Thanks for takin the bait. :deal

How come Nonpareil Jack Dempsey isn't on the list/poll? I still stand by Monzon though just curious as to why he's not on there.

Gotta go with Robinson/Greb, but as my man Hands pointed out, Greb had a lot of wins past the 160 lbs as well as other ATG wins against guys like Walker and Flowers at MW, flip a coin if you like.

    Then Hagler.

    Then Monzon

    Then Hopkinssssssssssssmaybe

Yeah, people are still bitching over the Pac/Marquez fight instead. It was a month ago people! :cus!!!

I have a hard time putting Hops in there alongside those guys but damn he could fight, and his H2H'ness wins him points for more.

But Burley does as well so :admin

Hopkins, Burley and Williams all fight for the #5 spot for me.

The Whitaker **** was completely on point, though. There's an army of detractors on this forum and they're bad people.

Hagler is greater because Pea was boring.
