From the WBC convention...

A summit is proposed for the 2009 WBC convention in Jeju Island, South Korea concerning a proposed Universal champion. Under the idea of José Sulaimán, the organizations of the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF would enter their respective champions into competition (semi-finals and finals) with one Universal champion rising to the top of the heap. The winner will be administered to by the sanctioning organization who's title he originally held. The losers will still retain their own original titles. Another plan for the 2009 convention is to invite broadcasters like HBO, Showtime, ESPN, Sky Sports and so on to create a dialog and thaw the frost between the sanctioning bodies and the networks.

I agree, it'd boost boxing back towards where it should be.

It'd depend on HBO and Showtime spending big bucks on the idea. It's exactly what's needed.

One World , One champ each weight . However a unified Champ only lasts as long as a strawberry season for finacial reasons , I didn't see Calzaghe or Haye hang onto their respective Unified Titles for too long as these ABC's are usually far to quick to strip in order to get their greedy little paws on the double sanctioning fees the fighters fighting for their vacant Trinket usually brings ..One world , One Title , One Champ each weightclass ...

It'll either get in the way, or it'll be the reason it happens.

Yep Jose also said that the Rocchigiani fiasco was a set-up of which they were completely innocent! LOL!
"The winner will be administered to by the sanctioning organization who's title he originally held. The losers will still retain their own original titles" So basically nothing is going to change: they lose, they keep their belts and just add to the confusion as they will be engaging in title fights after losing to whoever

Regardless, it'd be the best fighting the best. That's all I'm interested in. Alphabet soup titles mean nothing to me.

Great news lets hope it eventuates.

Interesting sidenote was the Top Rank fighters...Humberto Soto, Manny Pacquiao & Kelly Pavlik have not been paying their sanctioning fees to the WBC.
