Not a bad list, 2 changes: Biggest mismatch (in a title fight): Chad Dawson vs Jesus Ruiz Worst fight (in a big fight): Briggs vs Ibragimov (this was WAY WORSE than Spinks vs Taylor, no matter what anyone says, atleast Spinks vs Taylor showed skill, neither Briggs or Ibragimov showed ****)
A few disagreements... Round of the year - Vasquez/Marquez round 3 KO of the Year - Andy Lee's KO of Carl Daniels Mismatch of the Year - Enzo Macca vs Bobby Gunn; 2 of the 3 biggest mismatches of the year were on the same card Prospect of the Year - Odlanier Solis
Fight of the Year: Juan Manuel Marquez vs Marco Antonio Barrera can't get more technical and exciting at the same time than this fight.
so what I believe that couldve been possible... if I were to tell you Buster Douglas is gonna knockout Tyson in his prime...youd say im crazy...prime tyson wasnt superman...and wlad has that reach, power and intelligence to pull it off....
Best performance : De La Hoya. When everyone was expecting a shut out from PBF, he just made the fight and even won in many eyes (like mine). Fight of the year : JMM/MAB. I enjoyed that fight.
I agree with you, that fight was class. I really tend to enjoy technical matches that have a bit of raw brutality in them over raw brutality with a bit of technicality over it, and then definitley enjoy both of the above over club fighters slugging each other, i.e. Gatti/Ward. Jmm/Barrera was action packed, technically sound and competitive, very entertaining.
Most feared person in each division(biggest risk/lowest reward) Heavyweight: Sam Peter Cruiserweight: Darnell Wilson Light Heavyweight: Adrian Diaconu Super Middleweight: Lucian Bute Middleweight: Kelley Pavlik Lt.Middleweight: Joel Julio Welterweight: Joshua Clottey light welterweight: Vivian Harris Lightweight: Nate Campbell SuperFeatherweight: Humberto Soto Featherweight: Nicky Cook Super bantam: Celestino Cabrello Bantamweight: Silence Mabuza Super flyweight: Jose Navarro Flyweight: Vic Darchinyan light flyweight: Omar Romero Strawweight: Ronald Barrera
That was one of those very few fight where you can apreciate the quintessence of boxing. Each punch was thrown perfectly with everything behing, power, speed, balance, agressiveness... textbook punches. I was very impressed by Marquez performance in that fight. I think he deserved to win (althought not as one sided as the judges saw) and Barrera did very well too with the perfect right cross counter punch that dropped Marquez. Definitely one of the best fights of the decade.
