Glad to see someone can count... unless it's last 50 years including death time... 1. Duran 2. Leonard 3. Ali 4. Whitaker 5. Griffith 6. Hagler 7. Monzon 8. Jones 9. Lewis 10. Hopkins
And that was their defining fight. Duran, moving up two weight classes to engage the bigger and flashier Leonard, go toe-to-toe with him, and defeat him. Then came back and caught Duran, bloated between fights, and desperately ingesting laxatives and diuretics, right up till weigh-in. Duran was well past prime and fighting 20 lbs above his natural weight against a prime ATG fighting at his ideal weight. And he got caught with a perfrect punch (Schmeling/Louis, Tarver/Jones, Foreman/Moorer, Rahman/Lewis. ) It happens. It happened to Hearns a few years later. KTFO'd by Barkley in round 3 ! But some time after that, Duran, almost 38 and fighting 25 lbs above his natural weight, defeated that same Barkley in an achievement that was greater than single achievement of Leonard's. You're right. No contest !
:happy Damn good post bro. I would also add about the Duran KO by Hearns and then Leornard beating Hearns this simple tidbit. Larry Holmes lost by KO to Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson lost by KO to Danny Williams. So by the original posters own logic, Danny Williams is CLEARLY better than Larry Holmes!!! :nut
Their defining fight? Because the person you wanted to win won? They were a fight and a rematch. Part of being the greatest is training for a fight and putting your best foot forward. Even in defeat SRL has never looked as bad as Duran. He ****ing quit. What would you say if someone nowadays had done that? No contest. Duran is good, but to say he has a better legacy, resume, and head to head showing than SRL is so ****ing ridiculous. And I hated Leonard. Actually rooted for Duran, Hearns, and Hagler aginst him.
You're so right. You have such a perceptive and perspicacious grasp of boxing, and boxing history. I was foolish to even attempt to question you. Accept my humble apologies.
