Even compared to Pacquiao, Ortiz looks just as formidable.

Now lets compare Pacquiao to Jones Jr.

    or Whitaker

Once again, you've managed to take it out of context. You said modern fighters were more skilled than their classic counterparts. So I gave examples of classic fighters from 40 to 50 years ago in comparison to a top notch fighter of today. I wasn't comparing resumes or ATG status, simply skills. Anyone who understands boxing can see how much more skilled Napoles is than Montiel and really any fighter around today.

And even when compared to Pacquiao, both Napoles and Ortiz remain the far more skilled fighters.

AS bernstein said, RJJ did not fought the best competition as Pac did. He might look more athletic but legacy wise Pac is still ahead of him in Greatness.

Whitaker was Great but never captured the imagination of the Boxing fans. Pac is Both Great and entertaining. That where Pac is ahead of Sweepea, in entertainment value. Pac dominates, destroys the greats in his era(except for JMM, He'll follow soon.) like no other.

That's your opinion. But I'm comparing ATGs from SRL era UP TO today's Eras compared to the old Black & white era. Modern Greats like Ali, SRL, Hearns, Hagler, RJJ, PBF, Pac, EM, MAB, JMM are the ones you should compare to the oldies eras, not Montiel.

Where does the "oldies era" begin? Be more specific. Ali fought in black and white film as well. Napoles and Ortiz both had fights in color. Be specific.

    Uh uh uh....

ESPN just did a poll of the 50 greatest fighters in history, Pacquiao was not on it, but Jones was. As a matter of fact, Bernstein is the only analyst (that isn't Filipino) who has ever mentioned Pacquiao in the same breath as Jones. So if we're going to argue what "writers" have said, Jones still holds a significant advantage. What, you think that you can quote Bernstein and all the other writers and analysts opinions are now moot? You can do better than that. As a mater of fact, I challenge you to find me a single list in the past 3 years that has Pacquiao ahead of Roy Jones or Whitaker.

    So lets compare shall we?

Jones beat more ATG's, more champions, and more top 10 rated Ring contenders in his weight classes than Pacquiao has. So tell me again how Pacquiao has beaten better competition? What you think that beating MAB, Morales, and JMM trumps Jones entire resume, which also includes Hopkins, Toney, McCallum, and Trinidad. Yah, Jones beat 2 of them past their prime, but that has never stopped you when talking about Pacquiao's wins.

Jones > Pacquiao in nearly every way.

I agree about Chavez and Ramirez, but De La Hoya wasn't a robbery. It was a close fight. Similar to Hagler fans trying to overturn the Leonard decision, in a close fight, the judges' scorecards are what matter. De La Hoya won.

In every poll we've ever done in the General Forum on that fight, Pea always won the poll very clearly. And I said I score it as I see it, hence my rankings.

It was just last year. The list was horrible mind you. I only mentioned it because PacD doesn't "respect" the opinion of anyone who disagrees with him, unless it's "boxing writers". And even then, he will try and discredit them if he can. Either way, he puts stock in writers, and my point with the list is that 1) Most analysts don't rate Pacquiao as the best fighter of his generation and 2) Writers are inconsistant just like anyone else. They see the same fighters we do from this generation.

One point of contention also is going to be that many people don't consider Pacquaio part of the same generation as DLH, Jones, etc. I do, but he will cross into the next generation too, which I think started a couple of years ago.

I am one of the few non Pinoy Pacquiao fans who have Pacquiao in or near the Top 50 all time. But it's ludicrous at this point to put him above Jones and even crazier to put him above Whitaker. And to use one analyst opinion to suddenly make such a leap in logic? Ridiculous.
