Was watching Toney vs. Barkley last night. Toney has to be the coolest fihgter. He does these great U motions with his body to one side then the other. barkley was breathing directly on him and was still swinging at air.

So what other fights woiuld you say demonstrate great infighting by one fighter?

You just named a perfect one and a favorite of mine. I think maybe Chavez/Rosario could count. I remember Chavez just smothering Rosario back onto the ropes and nullifying so much of his power and doubling and tripling body shots and wrecking the poor helpless bugger.

Never saw that one. Do you think Chavez had great infighting skills or do you think a lot of his success inside was due to toughness?

Chavez is an extremely underrated technician. Very crafty. You should check that one out. Chavez knew exactly how to execute his gameplan and befuddled some very good fighters. That he was so tough is a helluva bonus but he was smart and his offense wasn't based on taking two to land one or getting one big shot off. It was a diverse arsenal and he didn't rely on power and chin, even though he had plenty of both. And his defense was none too bad either.

Boxed Ears beat me to it. Chavez-Rosario was the first to come to mind.

Watching JT on the inside was BEAUTIFUL! More recently, Andre Ward's master class against Alan Green.

Agreed. Ward put on a clinic and barely was on the recieving end of Allan's punches.

JG, you think Toney's ingame is up there with the best of them?

No question that it is Chavez Rosario. I remember one of the last rounds Rosario did not get out of his corner. Chavez got right over there and beat on him as soon as he got out of his stool.

Chavez based on the performance ranks top 5 infighters. Double-hooks, working both sides, slipping, parrying shot, countering, cutting the ring quickly, economy with his punch selection.

That fight is a true Gem in boxing history. What Chavez did that night was sweet science.
