Donald Curry vs Marlon Starling 2 - Most likely the most impressive performance of Curry's career. Curry used lateral movement and workrate to just sneak past Starling the first time.In the rematch, however,he pressed the fight, stayed in-close and basically took Starling to school for fifteen rounds. To dominate a man at his own game - especially someone as good as Starling - takes a really special fighter.Starling spoke well of Curry after that fight. I don't think so Neither fight was one-sided and there were no long periods of sustained inside fighting.
He took him to school in one round - the last. That aside, the second fight was as close as the first. Back to the thread topic - first fight that came to my mind was Fullmer-Basilio I - now THAT was an inside mugging.
atsch...The first fight was an absolute flogging after the first round and , for your information, every prime Joe Frazier fight contains sustained infighting whether his opponent wanted to or not...that's what made Smokin' so great.
The fight wasn't remotely close.Curry wasn't just winning the majority of the rounds,he was winning them decisively. It was in the third round that the fight truly changed, after Frazier hurt him with a left hook. Neither fight with Ellis was an inside fight. The fights are not comparable to the Quarry fights, for example.
A few other inside fights which although not totally one-sided, had large elements of domination: Jorge Fernandez vs. Charley Scott Sandy Saddler vs. Charley Riley Henry Armstrong vs. Ceferino Carcia II Henry Armstrong vs. Barney Ross Gene Fullmer vs. Rocky Castellani
Why not? The fourth Griffith vs Rodriguez bout may qualify as LMR wins it inside but it is very very scrappy and the worst fight of the quadrilogy.
Duran/Leonard wasn't a schooling but Curry/Starling II was? I'm afraid I don't understand where you're coming from here.
Because it wasn't one-sided.Leonard more than held his own,and many of the rounds were closely contested. Curry dominated Starling from start to finish.Curry fought Starling's fight and dominated.Leonard fought Duran's fight and held his own.No comparison between the two.
How did you score Duran vs Leonard I? I felt Duran was near enough in controll throughout, one step ahead throughout the whole fight. Some rounds were close but generally Duran held the advantage. Although, Duran outclassed Leonard more than Curry outclassed Starling, so I don't have a clue what your on about in all seriousness.
The first 10 rounds of the bout weren't close at all on the whole. Duran won at least 7 of them in commanding fashion. Leonard was only able to close the distance on the cards when Duran started to let up during the later rounds. Sorry, but that simply isn't true, at least in my opinion. The Curry/Starling fight was a lot more closely contested for the majority of the rounds than Duran/Leonard was. There were clear winners in both fights, but I'd say Curry/Starling II is a much better example of a two-way technical chess match of in-fighting, whereas Duran/Leonard I was more of a masterclass on Duran's part.
There were more than some rounds that were close. And no,I don't have a scorecard for Leonard-Duran 1 - though I've never scored anything less than six rounds for Leonard. I do have a scorecard for Starling and Curry, though. Point is,Leonard-Duran was closely contested;Curry-Starling wasn't.Curry won the rounds and did so convincingly.
Chavez-Rosario is the top pick so far; he was just outstanding that night, though Rosario was kind of limited really in what he could do stylistically. Still, you have to give the man credit for standing in there and taking that pure hell for as long as he did. Hell, he never even went down. Another pick might be Czyz-Andrew Maynard. Maynard was terribly overhyped and was never meant for the pro game, but Bobby just dissected him inside.
