To the remorse of many fans, Vic does not get the adoration he deserves, probably for the reasons you point out (Armenian) & I'm sure his display of his roots is designed to keep as many fans & supporters as he can.

Joe B embraced this country with a passion, & is revered in the community as a humble gentleman but he had the advantage of being reared as a pom with few issues of our lingo, unlike Kostya & Vic.
As an example of embracing a new home, in a "60 minutes" segment on Kostya, who has enormous interests in Russia still, Commented "We (Family) couldn't live in Russia now, we have become too much a part of the Oz fabric. This is home"
Just like Famachon, Lester & Barry & numerous other champs that weren't born here, if they call it home, we won't deny them, but they do have to earn their stripes. (Prove they are for real)

My main issue with Vic and Kostya is not that about their nationality...they are Aussie as anyone.

But where they learnt their craft...which for the most part was not in this country. Making them just as much a product of their homeland as they are a product of Australia.

 

Mate you also make some good points , but imo to proclaim talented Athletes from another country as "Our Own" is a crock of shite , it was the same when we had an infux of rugby players come here claiming to be Welsh lol ok they exploited the rules and earned Welsh Cap's alongside decent money but no one here claimed them as "our own" ok if you move to a country as a nipper and go onto respresent your country then fair goes but mature adults doing it is a load of old bollocks , its like WAR points to above this post , if an Armenian learns their trade in the country of their birth it should reflect on that country . and BTW mate i have been a Darchinyan fan for around five years now the bloke is a talent but fark me he seems to be losing his way a bit recently .

Josey & rocky,, I agree 100% about home grown talent, but we can get pretty devious if they call Oz home, ask to be registered at an Oz citizen, fight under our flag, then we say they don't qualify for any OZ accolades.

We shouldn't forget that we will never really know if they would have reached the heights they have without the polish they got here.
