What Olympians compare with the best pros? Should anyone besides La Cruz and Ramirez be considered? Stevenson is really skilled and has great potential, but didn't have the presence to know when to turn it up, so can't be compared to great pro champions yet. I was high on Iglesias and he's still a skilled, classic slick counterpuncher, but he was lackadaisical in getting outwork this Olympics. Here's what I have... 1. Lomachenko 2. Gonzalez 3. Ward 4. Inoue 5. Rigondeaux 6. Julio Cesar La Cruz 7. Mikey Garcia 8. Crawford 9. Robeisy Ramirez 10. Golovkin 11. Kovalev 12. Estrada 13. Degale 14. Brook 15. Nietes 16. Frampton 17. Lara 18. Alvarez 19. Linares 20. Spence
La Cruz will be KO'd the moment he turns pro, his Sergio Martnez/Mayweatheresque style is great in 3 rounders, but in a 12 rounder, that hands down style and lack of power will get him KTFO by most top LHW's. Please don't insult Kovalev by ranking him that far below La Cruz.
ain't cruz fight just like floyd, low ouput he could do 12 no problem, his style is perfect for 12, and ain't he fight 8 rounds or whatever in apb? Y'all don't want to see another floyd that boy would beat any LHW Kovalev would get schooled
cruz looks very entertaining fun to watch, but where is his power i watched his highlights no knockouts, LHW those guys have power krusher, pimp, sog, joe smith, pascal, sooner later he going to get clipped
cruz ain't no puncher but got skills like floyd, and ain't cruz been in with bigger punchers like that british kid buatsi mina the french guy
and he never lost to mina just saw that fight, horrific robbery, they took two points of cruz that guy cruz is p4p the best clearly
Ok, bumped Kovalev up and Golovkin down. Golovkin's vulnerability to lateral movement was exposed vs Brook. I think I've overrated him a bit and Kovalev is the more complete fighter. I have Kovalev still lower than most not because of any problems I have with Kovalev but because I rate the guys above like Garcia and Crawford so highly. Of course I have Ward above Kovalev because I'm picking him to win, though I'm not too confident and wouldn't be shocked to see anything happen. If Kovalev wins how high I rank him depends on how he wins. My ranking of amateurs like Cruz compared to established pros let's say is based on how they'd do in potential 8 rounders. La Cruz has already proven just as dominant in the 5 round WSB, so I think his legs can last another few while keeping top pros pros from landing. In fact by the later rounds after he's figured out guys he'll up his attack, and though he doesn't attack till he knows his opponent is there to hit he has great offensive skills and solid power. Where does anyone else think the top amateurs compare to the top pros? Do any current amateurs besides La Cruz and Ramirez deserve comparison? 1. Lomachenko 2. Rigondeaux 3. Gonzalez 4. Ward 5. Inoue 6. Julio Cesar La Cruz 7. Mikey Garcia 8. Crawford 9. Kovalev 10. Robeisy Ramirez 11. Golovkin 12. Estrada 13. Degale 14. Brook 15. Nietes 16. Frampton 17. Lara 18. Alvarez 19. Spence 20. Linares
Rigo is too low and has the best win (Donaire) of anybody on that entire list. Inoue (while great) only has 11 fights and I can't really see a reason to rank him quite that high. Loma doesn't deserve number 1 (yet). My top 5 1 Roman Gonzalez 2 Andre Ward 3 Guillermo Rigondeaux 4 Vasyl Lomachenko 5 Inoue
I moved Rigo up. Back up, as I had him number 1 for a few years. Which pushes Inoue to the same number 5 spot you have him at. I moved Rigo down after I thought he showed he was slipping against Amagasa, but after just watching the fight again I don't think his ability should be questioned. He was knocked down once from a hard right while trying to hold to avoid Amagasa pushing him, but otherwise outboxed and at times toyed with a guy with an awkward, difficult style. The knock down shouldn't detract from his performance any more than being knocked down against Donaire. Loma's the number 1 p4p for me because I think he beats Rigo, and I'll have him number 1 without question as long as he dominates so thoroughly that he doesn't lose rounds and shows no weaknesses. It's not an argument to say Loma can't be number 1 because he lost to Salido. We know the conditions of that fight, that he fought a guy who didn't make weight, that Salido got away with brutal low blows, that in his first 12 rounder he wasn't at his tactical best, and that despite that Loma arguably won, and almost stopped him. My rating Loma number 1 means I think he'll dominate Salido in a rematch, and beat everyone south of welterweight he steps in the ring with.
Anyone who watched the Salido fight knows he got robbed and I don't hold it against him one bit. He just doesn't have a big win yet like the other top guys. He and Rigo are clearly top guys it's just that Rigo has a win over a top P4P guy and Loma doesn't.
I don't like p4p lists, i always miss someone. Pros: 1-Andre Ward 2-Sergey Kovalev 3-Gennady Golovkin 4-Roman Gonzales 5-Terence Crawford 6-Guillermo Rigondeaux 7-Tyson Fury 8-Carl Frampton 9-Saul Alvarez 10-Adonis Stevenson/Keith Thurman Amateurs: 1-Julio La Cruz 2-Robeisy Ramirez 3-Daniyar Yeulusinov 4-Arlen Lopez 5-Shakhobidin Zoirov 6-Hasanboy Dusmatov 7-Lazaro Alvarez 8-Bektemir Melikuziev 9-Mohammed Rabii 10-Vasily Levit/Adilbek Niyazymbetov
