Best Performances in a Draw?

Holyfield did alright, but clearly struggled to find a way to beat The Lion. Lewis was too cautious. So how did either give a 'best performance' or even one of the best performances in a draw?

Antuofermo's successful MW Title defense against Hagler. Marv wasn't just expected to dethrone Vito, he was expected to DESTROY him, and paint the canvas red with Antuofermo's blood in the process. Yet, it was HAGLER who actually gassed a bit in the championship rounds.

Gene Fullmer-Joey Giardello is another one we have footage of. Like Vito, it was Joey who got carried aloft in celebration after this one.

Gene was the "victim" in yet another successful title defense draw at 160, his final match with SRR, where Ray gained tremendous acclaim for his sometimes overlooked fighting heart. Gene himself gained acclaim for his draw with Tiger for his old MW crown in his penultimate career bout.

good ones, most people forget Hagler was supposed to crush Vito but never expected Vito to show the big balls that he had and even waved Marvin in after rocking Marvin in the 13th the fight was close but no way Hagler deserved the title...Vito stepped up and held strong and showed he was not giving up...Cosell said this Vito has shown intestinal fortitude

Don't think this one's been mentioned - i liked how well Weaver fought in his draw against Dokes. Most ringsiders picked him narrowly and he really gave it his all in there.

 

I'd even argue that it was his best overall performance, since it was a win against a top 5 fighter that wasn't based on just power like his wins over John Tate and Carl Williams. Weaver was in there against an opponent with a very tough style for him (someone faster, more skilled and with the power to hurt him) but won through hard work and good ring generalship (and not being a coke addict).

 

Excellent choice. Unfortunately, Hercules had to be able to stop King's anointed successor to Holmes to regain his stolen WBA Title. In this situation, a draw was as good as a win,
