Jose Napoles in the second Backus fight; a demonstration that makes the claim that you have to achieve "front foot dominance " ridiculous. Nestor Garza vs Enrique Sanchez. A great example of how to use shifts to beat a southpaw with your left hand. Ricardo Lopez had about a dozen of them. Buddy McGirt vs Kevin Watts, if you want to see a chubby, 5'6" guy land over 200 jabs against a 6' southpaw. Proving once again how physical advantage trumps skill every time.
Oscar Bonavena vs Karl Mildenberger on Sept 16 1967, WBA Tournament, Bonavena by unanimous decision. He knocked southpaw Karl up and down enroute to a victory.
Mike McCallum vs Ayub Kalule Miguel Lora vs Daniel Zaragoza Erik Morales vs Paulie Ayala Marco Antonio Barrera vs Naseem Hamed Wladimir Klitschko vs Chris Byrd Bernard Hopkins vs Antonio Tarver Andre Ward vs Chad Dawson Carl Froch vs Lucian Bute Canelo vs James Kirkland Miguel Cotto vs Sergio Martinez
I agree, the "front foot dominance" is not a big thing. The only "real" advantage the southpaw has is that he probably spars more right handed fighters than the right handed fighter spars southpaws. I have seen right handed fighters who have not been in with southpaws very much who could not see the left hand. It's different, but most people can learn. Somebody recently posted a video of Usyk sparring a right handed fighter. Usyk moved to his right making the other guy move to his left, Usyk didn't do anything and the guy moved back to his right, when he did Usyk caught him with a left hand. This would work just as well for a right handed fighter against a southpaw, IF it was reversed and the right handed fighter was as "immersed" in boxing as Usyk. Anything that works for a southpaw vs. an orthodox fighter could work for an orthodox fighter against a southpaw if reversed.
Orlando Canizales’ performance against Fernando Ramos was also spectacular. This content is protected
If you want to see a really good one, check out the second bout between Yoko Gushiken and Pedro Flores. Man, once Flores found the range with his lead right, not to mention seeing that Gushiken couldn't get out of the way of it, you could see the southpaw champ slowly breaking down bit by bit. Good fight and good performance.
Roberto Duran vs Hagler- he did great no problems with sthpaw stance. Camacho- I thought Duran won easily. No problems.
