I was just trying to piece together the perfect heavyweight through the ages: Power: Foreman Stamina: Marciano Hand speed: Patterson: Reflexes: Ali Footspeed: Ali Cuts: Ali Heart: Ali Strength: Jefferies Defense: Johnson Accuracy: Louis Combinations: Holyfield/Louis/Ali Ring IQ: Tunney Reach: Liston Jab: Holmes Hook: Frazier Right: Marciano Uppercut: Lewis Anyone any other suggestions??
Power: Shavers Stamina: Marciano Hand speed: Patterson Reflexes: Ali Footspeed: Ali Cuts: Holmes Heart: Frazier Strength: Foreman Defense: Johnson Accuracy: Louis Combinations: Louis Ring IQ: Tunney Reach: Liston Jab: Holmes Hook: Walcott Right: Lewis Uppercut: Bowe
Stamina: Jeffries, Willard or Sullivan. John L. lugged Kilrain around for 75 rounds, two hours, 16 minutes and 25 seconds. Jeff beat up Sharkey for 75 minutes in 115 degree heat for 75 minutes with just one arm to punch effectively with, and had Sailor Tom fading at the end. (If the sanctioned film of that event ever surfaces in good repair, that should be spectacular footage, having been shot at a speed of 30 frames per second, When Corbett was training for Fitz with him, Jeff proved to be a faster sprinter and have better endurance than his employer. This is especially astounding when considering Corbett's 61 three minute rounds with Peter Jackson. When Corbett first challenged Jeff for his old title, the Boilermaker had enough reserve power to take him out with a single hook in round 23. Big Jess outlasted Jack Johnson in 105 degree Havana heat and humidity under the midday sun, and probably had sufficient training to go the full 45 scheduled rounds. (Joe Gans previously demonstrated in Goldfield that this was humanly possible in a torrid desert climate, even when weakened by having to meet a weight limit.) The Lil' Artha' who weighed 192 for Tommy Burns probably would have taken a 45 round decision over Willard in Havana, with no knockdowns registered by either side. Marciano was tremendous in round 15 of the first Charles fight, but the fact remains that he no longer had the punch to take Ezz out. In a much longer war, Rocky might have run down from blood loss alone. (Back in 1978, this actually happened to Soo-Hwan Hong, who was defending his WBA SB Title in his native Seoul against Ricardo Cardona. The challenger had turned him into a bloody mess, but the referee feared for his life if he stopped it, as a Hagler/Minter type riot had recently taken place after another local favorite in South Korea was ruled unable to continue on cuts. But this time, the champion conceded defeat with a wave of his glove during round 12, much to the official's relief. Hong was previously the WBA BW Champion, and an established 15 round performer, but he was virtually overcome by exsanguination here.)
Nice post Lobotomy, I enjoyed the read. Willard is a fair shout I suppose regarding stamina (despite the fact Johnson was faded when they fought).
Ali had no idea how to fight as the aggressor and he didn't have a body attack. EDIT: Chin has to be Oliver McCall. EDIT II: Reach has to be Carnera aswell, didn't he have a 90" reach or something ridiculous like that?
