Who has the best boxing debut? I'm not talking about who had the flashiest fight, I more mean in terms of record, who has the strongest win in their first professional fight? I'm not that well educated in boxing history, but Evander Holyfield's first win was against a guy that was 9-1-2 and quite well rated (by Boxrec standards). Thoughts?
David Reid pro debut against a guy who's 10-0 to beat what you posted. And Pete Rademacher lost his pro debut, but he was challenging the heavyweight champion of the world at that time.
A littlebit offtopic but i was amazed to see that Michael Katsidis went 12 rounds in his second fight.
Saensak Muangsurin beat Flipino Rudy Barro on his pro debut. Barro already fought for the OPBF lightweight title and fought the likes of hedgemon lewis.
Roy Jones? Can't be bothered to look on boxrec right now, but he was on NBC in his first few fights and a fight with Nigel Benn in '89 was drummed up for Jones! But then his dad took him off TV for a few years, in local tents.
Right now i´d say that Rigondeaux could have done it. Floyd too. But after that i don´t see any active fighters who could have won a title in their pro debuts. And before someone says Andre Ward i suggest watching a few of his earlier fights.
Was thinking about this the other day, for when Vasyl Lomachenko goes pro, and was thinking about potential fights for number 1. Would beating Derry Mathews over 8 be the most impressive debut in recent years? He's well capable.
Lionel Byarm, he was the Pennsylvania Light-Heavyweight champion & it was a quality fight for a 6 rounder. Incidentally Byarm's son, Maurice is a heavyweight prospect who has fought Jennings & Abdusalamov.
