Best PURE boxer,my weight, bad chin hurt me

how many times was larkin KO'd ?? lew jenkins was stopped about 12 times but he was usually drunk or giving away about a stone in weight.

Has to be Norris,Larkin,or R.Mayweather,you could throw Micheal Olajadae and Mark Breland in there to.

 

Hearns was the best pure boxer if he felt like he needed to be or if he was was hurt bad enough,knowone in any era could outbox if he fought that way,but when you have that dynamite in your hands like he had you would only box when you needed to of course he should have boxed against Hagler and Barkley though.

 

I never said he was easy to outbox, but that doesn't make him a pure boxer. Mike Tyson was hard to outbox, and he's not a pure boxer. Hearns was a great boxer, but he was an offensive minded one. When people say 'if he wanted to' it riles me, he fought how he did on film, and that's what he's judged as imo. People talk like he boxed like a wizard vs Leonard. He fought superbly, i'm not knocking him as an effective fighter one ounce, i'm just purely commenting on how i perceived his style. Because of how ridiculously good his jab was, he was almost impossible to outbox. It was because he box-punched, not because he was employing pure-boxing methods i.e Howard Winstone. And at many times throughout his 147 career he was a wild puncher (again not a knock at his effectiveness, purely a comment on his style employed).

At 154 he was a more matured and composed technician in my opinion.

 

I think Muhammad Ali disagree with you, He said that Patterson was the most technical boxer he ever faced....

 

Even if he was technical, he's clearly not a pure boxer. Sorry to sound like a ***** but i don't think it's even debatable. Roberto Duran and Ruben Olivares were technically more than sound to say the least, but they're not pure boxers. I just don't see how you can come to that conclusion regarding Patterson. He had a good defense, he had fine punching technique in the combo, he was let down by physical strength more so than his chin in my opinion, against heavies. But he's clearly not a pure boxer. Like i say, a pure boxer to me is someone like Howard Winstone or Chris John.

Ali! Not a textbook technician but definitely a pure boxer methods wise, especially in his prime ('first career'). Also, there were the likes of Eddie Machen who in my opinion falls into that category. Lennox was not one dimensional but he certainly turned in some boxing displays, so i wouldn't put him all in. A technician he was. You don't get too many at heavy it seems, Wlad Klitschko would fit imo though. Not as the best, just as a pure boxer, the best would clearly be Ali imo.

 

Chris Byrd, but he might be labelled more of a defensive minded boxer.
