Hot take (originally posted in the Horn vs. Crawford poll thread):

...if he snatches the highly regarded Crawford's zero within a year of defeating Pacquiao, the résumé of Jeff Horn will officially be the best of the "World champs with 20 pro bouts or less" Club (other members include 15-0 Naoya Inoue, 14-0 Oleksandr Usyk, 13-0 Dmitry Bivol, 19-0 Isaac Dogboe, 20-0 Gervonta Davis, 19-0 Alberto Machado, 17-0 Thammanoon Niyomtrong, 19-0 Ryan Burnett and 12-0 Ken Shiro**) - even if some of them win their upcoming high-profile bouts, ie Usyk in the WBSS final. :deal:

** Tanaka has been stripped and Gvozdyk is only interim champ. Lomachenko is excluded from consideration due the loss to Salido (but even so, Horn would have a superior overall professional résumé if he defeats Crawford, even if Lomachenko were to also defeat Linares)

Usyk if he gets by Gassiev will temporarily be #2, but of course will soon drop from the rankings altogether when he vacates his unified cruiser belts and moves up to HW (and is thus no longer a sitting champ).

After that it will be Horn followed by Inoue, then a sizable drop-off before the rest. (as much as I like, say, Bivol, his résumé doesn't yet match that of a Monster Inoue, let alone having the names Pacquiao and Crawford on it)

Inoue's current résumé plus McDonnell is wonderful, especially for only having 16 professional contests - but does it trump having Pacman and Crawdaddy?

To be clear: I don't mean right now. I mean pending the outcomes in everybody's (from the list/poll) upcoming fights, assuming they all win. :deal:

I count Horn's win over Manny as much as I count Bradley's, which means I don't really count them.

Even if we go by official records, Inoue decimated Hernandez and Narvaez and didn't enjoy a 15-20 pound advantage that Horn did over Manny or employ dirty tactics.

Horn would have to KO Crawford to edge Inoue. But maybe not if Inoue KOs McDonnell...

I'm guessing the people unwilling to entertain the idea of Horn being the clear pack leader here are those who believe he got a gift over Pacquiao...and/or the kind of vermin that'll chat up how Crawford is going to destroy him and then do a 180 and claim that Bud was never any good if he loses.

While I think Crawford's resume is rather hollow (with the Postol victory being a good win), Horn beating him decisively and without controversy would be mighty impressive.

And I don't think a Usyk win over Gassiev should put him ahead of Horn/Inoue... perhaps it's because Gassiev has the boogeyman label?

    Usyk > Horn

The major difference for me is that of the 4 opponents in question, Briedis/Gassiev and Pacman/Crawford, Pacman clearly stands out as a very different level of fighter than he was during his prime.

The name of 'Pacquiao' may stand out the most from all 4, but when you dig deeper and consider his age/decline, it isn't as impressive as beating two undefeated and very hungry World level fighters.

I take it you will be very impressed if Josh Taylor manages to beat Pistol in his 13th fight then?
