Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan (less than a month’s notice after Peterson had a PED controversy.)

Agree about Sanchez vs Nelson. I’ll bet nobody thought that Nelson who was a 13 fight prospect was going to be a future ATG

Steve Robinson was a late replacement he only had 24 hours to prepare and won a Featherweight world title.

He also had a nice little run as champion defending his title 7 or 8 times so definitely a good replacement with hindsight.

I believe Fighting Harada was a late sub when he beat Kingpetch in their 1st match & Lionel Rose was a sub when he beat Harada years later.

Bonecrusher Smith was a late replacement for Tony Tubbs when he beat Witherspoon for one of the belts.

Pacquiao was meant to fight Spence. Spence injured himself so in stepped Yordenis Ugas. Granted, PacMan was well past it, but was still an impressive win for Ugas.

I think it was Michael Katz of one of the New York papers who wrote, previewing the fight: Subs are only heroes in a sandwich shop. Which I thought was clever.

Depending on the fighter (both of them), sometimes guys are very dependent upon preparing for a certain thing and executing that … and when you change to a completely different opponent, they’re going to have a tougher time even if the sub isn’t as ‘good’ as the original opponent. Other fighters can freelance and adjust better. And some guys are going to fight one way no matter who they’re facing so it either works or it doesn’t. There’s a reason they say styles make fights.

Yes, but I don't think that that applies in this instance. I think that maybe I was wrong with my wording, "Especially considering how Holyfield fared against Cooper" was inaccurate, I should've said something like, "Especially considering how he fared against other fighters at the time." He certainly would've given Holyfield his hardest fight at Heavyweight up till that point, and I don't doubt that it'd be insanely competitive considering how tight Evander was on points against an aged out Holmes.

I know this was the inspiration for the thread, but no one has mentioned it.

Martin Bakole Ilunga vs Joseph Parker.
