I'm not really a huge fan of hypothetical questions. But I would be interested in getting your guys opinion on who had the greatest resume- Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran or Marvin Hagler. If they had not fought each other. Often people focus so much on the nine fights they had with each other and not so much the other greats they beat. What do you guys think?

Wow what a tough question. SRL is easily the best performed H2H in this lot so he loses out bigtime.

Duran was 1-4 but his win over SRL is in the stratosphere, he gets credit for putting up a fair effort vs Hagler and as usual gets a free pass for the other losses so it's a mixed bag for him.

Hagler has an unimpressive (IMO) win over Duran, a hurtful loss to SRL but a career best win over Hearns so it's a mixed bag for him too.

Hearns has losses to SRL and Hagler in good fights, a huge win over Duran and an underrated rematch with SRL.

Outside of these fights Duran has a dominant reign at 135, Palomino, Moore and Barkley. SRL has a reasonable reign at 147 with a great win over Benitez and a couple of fair wins above.

Hagler has a long solid career and reign at 160 with nothing singularly spectacular.

Hearns has a good career at 147 with a superb win over Ceuvas, a great win over Benitez at 154 and good reign, a decent stint at 160 and a title at 175 as well as a fine win over Hill when declined.

This is one tough question and Hearns definitely isn't out of it whilst SRL probably is really. I think Duran pips Hagler and it's out of he and Hearns depending on personal preferences i.e. long dominant reign vs mult titleist etc.

If you look at wins Hearns might have the best wins against dominant champs like Cuevas, Duran, Benitez and Hill. his wins are almost better than all the others.

I always thought Duran's resume at lightweight was poor, and not because I like Pernell. Hearns had those spectacular wins. Leonard had good wins. are we talking other than the fab 4?

Yes, so the best wins of these 4 guys, besides wins they have over one another

An outstanding question and one I really never thought about.

Minus a mere 9 fights how does the big four look on their own.

I think Duran is the outstanding one of the four, his incredible run at Lightweight and his great fights with Buchanon and Cuevas as well as his wins over Dejusus, Palomino, his jumping weights fighting Moore, and Barkley. Honestly his only knock would be Benitez. Arguably beating Camacho and Panzenia in his advanced age. I just dont see anyone of the four in his league.

Hagler would have to be 2nd on the list, Great wars and grit. Longevity as well

Hearns is a close 3rd , and would be considered a H2H monster. He outboxes Benitez and crushes Cuevas. He has some losses that drop him. If he destroys Barkley he is number 2.

Sugar ends the worst of the lot, Streaky, with great wins but lack of fights and his destruction by Camacho and Norris ends any thought of him being higher than the others. Despite what many of us would consider an incredible but short prime.

With the 9 fights my list would change.

    1-Duran
    2- Hearns
    3-Hagler
    4- Leonard

Thank you. I think its a interesting questions as wins over each other often get that much focus that other great wins are ignored. For me it would be

    Duran
    Hearns
    Hagler
    Leonard

I like a lot of Hearns wins. His win over Cueves was a great win. His win over Benetiz was very good. On top of that wins over Roldan, Kinchen, Hil, Andries, Shields, DeWitt......... Haglers resume is very good and he beat a lot of talent on his way to the title but I prefer the Hitmans body of work overall

Your actual list doesn't match your earlier comments.

I give Hearns most credit because of the title fight wins at 3 divisions. 147 . Cuevas 10 title defenses. Benitez at 154. when Wilfred beat Duran easily that same year.. And Virgil Hill 10 defenses and undefeated, that and all those fights at different weights. Hearns was impressive, and it is a shame the Leonard and Hagler fights hurt his legacy. He fought a lot of tough guys in many divisions. I looked at his resume. he even fought Nate Miller, who beat Orlin Norris.

I do also. Over many divisions and many styles.. I would have liked to have seen Hagler test his skills at 175. He always said that was not possible, but he just didn't want to risk it.

that is the one thing about Ray.. People forget he didn't really fight from 1982 to 1987.. half a decade and he got fighter of the decade. Not really fair. he had the best wins. But Hagler and Hearns had almost 30 more fights than he did.

My quotes were using the measure of NONE of the four fighting each other.

IF none of the 4 had fought each other this is my list

    1- Duran
    2- Hagler
3- Hearns ( if he beat Barkley he goes to number 2)
4- Leonard ( without the fights with the other fab4 he loses the most.

My list as it happened ( historical)
    1- Duran
    2- Hearns
    3- Hagler
4- Leonard ( yeah he is still number 4), I think Hagler beat him , as well as Hearns in the draw. His best win is Hearns1

Hearns one and Duran 2... and Kalule was a good win.. Benitez too. I mean without the top guys he beat, he really had a short career, but those guys he beat made up for it. You don't beat Duran,Hearns, Benitez and Hagler. No one does.
